Hi,
I'm trying to figure out services and/or products that have really helped people with brain injury in their recovery process. I know for people who have just suffered a brain injury it can be really overwelming to figure out what will be helpful and what information is the most trustworthy. Do any of you have any suggestions for things that have helped you or a loved one with the rehab process or anything related?
Thanks!
A couple of suggestions are:
www.biausa.org
Visit the website of your Brain Injury Association in your state.
Hook up with your local Vocational Rehabilitation Office. They have counselors to help with idea's and services available.
If you dont like the counselor you get, ask for another one.
Find PT, OT, Speech therapists that help with tools and tips that will work for your loved one.
My family always asked questions, they still are!
You can see my story on my website www.loganmagazine.com I sustained a brain injury at age 16. I'm 23 now and i think I'm living life well.
Sincerely,
Logan
Someone on another TBI site told me to take Phosphatidyl Choline (sp?) to heal brain cells. I noticed after a few weeks on it my thinking and memory is clearer. I was also told to take DHA/EPA fish oils so I take something called OmegaSmart MD because its made so it doesn't cause that fishy burp aftereffect. It just occured to me that I should point out I have old brain injury from over 12 years ago, so that is probably substantial to see improvement from a supplement after having BI for so many years.

Progressive Strength Recovery , Tom Wisenbaker has been Rebuilding LIves with Strength Training for two decades his techniques have been featured in many rehabilitation studies across the nation, in the late 90"s the largest patient advocacy group in the nation told him that he has single handedly changed the paradigm of brain injury recovery forever . Thankfully, there is real possibilities ! Feel free to take a look there are many wonderful stories.. Good Luck !
I to have heard that fish oils are good. I have not tryed myself! OT,PT and ST......All have been perscribed for me and Ive been doing it for a year now. Ill try to spell what each one means but please dont laugh at my spelling!!! OT= Is Ocupational Theripy.......PT= Physical Theripy......ST= Speech Theripy......I go to all three and there all the same but different? Speech dosent work on my speech much, so I leave it at that. All are very difficalt because as soon as you do good at somthing thay make it harder. Go figure hea?
Hi. What does your OT do at your appointments with her/him? I've had an OT for the past two months. She was recommended after my neuropsych test showed brain damage. She has been working with me to organize my apartment, get rid of clutter, teach me ways to remember things such as carrying memo books and since I was laid off work she has helped me with resume and interviewing skills. She told me what she is doing for me is not typical. So what is typical OT? Others have told me that they were given Speech Therapy for brain damage, so I have heard of it before. I think I will ask my Voc person about ST. VR has also been providing psychotherapy because I have complex PTSD and they sent me to a psychotherapist who specializes in brain injury.
Yes your OT sounds more like my speach theripest. My OT is working on Cognitive thinking and sensory intergration. All work hand and hand with each other! Even PT says it ties together? I guess asking many questions should help, and if your like me I have to write the quastions and when they answer write that down to! I drive my self nuts! I have only been doing this for close to a year, and have made great strides. Most of the things they do I have no clue of why? They give me answers but you might as well talk in another laungage to me. You can send me a PM if I could help at all? Im no pro just a Electrian(well us to be).
