For the past month or two, I have been using a piece of equipment called the Flexiciser.  In a nutshell, it is a piece of equipment that allows someone in a wheelchair to pull up to it, strap their feet in, and receive a limited amount of range of motion.  It propels the legs in a bike riding fashion.  I really like it because when I sit in my wheelchair for very long, my legs start tightening up and aching, and my only recourse is to either get out of my chair or start popping pain pills.  It does a lot more for me than just that, though.  It just feels so good to have my legs moving.  For that time, while they are in motion, nothing on me hurts.  I have no pain at all, and I feel a lot better afterword.   Think about it -- I don't know about you, but the last time my legs made that motion was 15 years ago when I last rode a bicycle.  It really feels good to have them moving.  The Flexiciser gets me loose enough to sit in my chair for a few more hours in comfort.  You can find out more about the Flexiciser at www.Flexiciser.com. or by attending one of the upcoming Abilities Expos.  I'm not trying to sell it -- just trying to help other people in my position.  It feels so good!  It's one of the only times day or night that I don't hurt.  I could fall asleep on it, that's how good it feels. I used it again tonight before getting out of my chair, and I would have to say that it is the single best feeling I have all day.  It feels SO good to have my legs moving like that.  I can't even begin to tell you. Regards, Steve Crowder a.k.a. • I'm T6 para and have been looking for a product like this.  Please tell me, are you able to get yourself into the foot rests with ease?  I tried another product and needed help to get into it and then it was like a bucking bronco ride, with the front of the machine bouncing off the floor and throwing my wheelchair backwards.  It took off my shoe and scraped my ankle!  I can only imagine how wonderful it would feel to have my legs moving like that again.  I miss my Raleigh!  Does it help with spasticity?  How do your arms move?  Thank you so much for sharing this info.

    • Hi... those are all good questions. I am a high-level quadriplegic, so I am not able to strap my feet in on my own. However, Flexiciser has told me that many paraplegics are able to strap in on their own. I know that I cannot reach the controls, but that doesn't mean you would not be able to. It's all pretty individualized. There is absolutely no risk of this machine bouncing you around like the other one you had. As for your arms, you have the option of having your hands grip the handlebars, which go forward and back, forward and back, forward and back. Also, you can set the Flexiciser to go at whatever speed you like and to give you as much or as little resistance as you like. You know what else? It's just as great as I make it sound. I love mine! If you have any further questions, I suggest you contact Amber Hansen at (760) 759-1306.

      Yours truly, Nick
