    • J25......welcome to disaboom ! It doesn't matter one whit whether or not what you say makes sense to anyone but YOU......just say it ! That's the lovely thimg about this site.....and the people in it........before I joined, I didn't know that other people had the kind of pain I had.....burning....prickling .....knife type shooting pains etc..........so it's more than comforting to know that you're not the only one in the universe, going through it !People have great suggestions.....whether or not it's medications....meditation, etc., etc......on how to cope.....be it minute to minute or whatever. It's helpful.....mostly comforting to know there's a caring, non-judgemental world out there......so again, welcome......and SAY ANYTHING !!!!! Peace and love......Norma

    • Daisies:

I also am a member on a Van Dyke discussion forum, and I only lurk there.

That is due to the fact that one isn't allowed to have another opinion except "Oh dear that is so awesome! I agree completely!"

Why would you want to be a member of a group that acts like that, it is not a discussion group, it is an agreeance group.  Without different opinion, things would get boring fast with me.  I have plenty of ideas, but bouncing them off of other people to get their ideas of them is what helps get a better idea.  Sometimes the way I think is wrong (I hate to admit it though) and it takes someone else to show me why.  We all need to be able to take criticism as well as praise.

You are so right. Actually that is just the same word I came up with.

But I have to stay a member of that group, just to get whatever news about the Van Dykes there might be.

You don't get anything here. Nobody even mentioned when Dick turned 80. (But all TV stations bent over backwards when Doris Day turned 80. Her movies seemed to run in an endless loop.)

      Pft.

Please don't be reluctant to contribute to this forum or any other because the underlining purpose of this website is for people with differing disabilities, backgrounds, experiences and values to communicate amongst ourselves in order to make our lives and life experiences richer.

You may be experiencing what I experienced and as a result we can share a slice of life and develop a common bond.  You can learn from among the many members on this website and they can learn from you.

      Nobody knows all the answers.

I was a lurker for a day or two and hesitant to post because my self-confidence had been damaged from repeated disappointments in my life.  But as I read, I realized I am not alone.

So keep posting.  We all can learn from each other.

      Rock on!

    • I was a lurker immediately following my diagnosis with MS. I wanted to ensure that Disaboom was a generally upbeat community with people who could provide helpful answers to my many questions. After a short time, I was hooked and came out of the lurking shadows.

    • If surfing is lurking then I guess I am a lurker of sorts.  It's kewl to lurk, I think, except in dating websites, cuz then it gets equated with voyeurism, and not too many folks like "watch queens."  LOL LOL LOL   Unless you're an exhibitionist and like to do "show and tell" on dating websites, and then that can be pretty kinky, which is kewl, too.

But elsewhere, like on websites where debate is running high, I can't lurk too long before I get sucked into the argument.   I'm a magnet for debates, I guess.

    • I try not to lurk but to look for what is interesting and where I can comment without looking like a total goober. I can do that well enough after people know me. Surprise

    • I have to admit I'm a Lurker but usually it's on post I have no experience with and know nothing about.  I'll read them but I have no right commenting on something i have no idea of.  I think that can be a little different. Not so much lurking but just respecting people's threads.

    • EmbarrassedI'm with Liesl on this...

I don't think it's in my genetic coding to lurk.  I'm pretty sure we should add keeping quiet, not voice an opinion and not helping others wasn't programmed in me either.... Embarrassed

    •  Safe to say I'm not a lurker but surprisingly (to some here maybe given my rambling) I am on other sites. A few things contribute: 1. if everyone just agrees and my post just feels like piling on another. 2. if the forum moves SO fast that if I only check it a couple times a day I have no chance of keeping up or finding previous threads I participated in 3. if I'm a little interested in the subject but don't feel like I have all that much to contribute oh and if there are alot of forum inside jokes...that steers me away too.

Lucky for me....I haven't encountered any of those things here.

    •  Ah to be a lurker or not to be....that is the question

I was a lurker for a long time but then found something I just had to comment on and that was the beginning. of the decade plus years I have been using the internet  this is the first site I have actually felt comfortable about posting anything and sharing with people I don't know personally.

I think our lurking habit come from trust questions. so many time I have tried to take part in conversations and have been totally overlooked or ignored. I was worried that disaboom would be the same way.

How wrong I was.....for all its imprefections it is a community of people who can share their difference and their disabilities  with no worry about being the only one. In disaboom our disabilies are not barriers...they are membership badges.. and the imperfections we have to deal with daily are OK with those we meet here.

So i would say to all who lurk...take your time, don't have to rush but join the discussions you are interested in and deal with your health concerns, You may be the exact person some else needs to talk to or share a answer to a day to day questions.

      blessings

    • I'm not a lurker of the site in general, but there are threads that I follow regularly, but haven't contributed to yet. Will I in the future? Who knows. As of yet I either have nothing worthwhile to contribute, or it's something that I don't feel strongly enough about to bother commenting, but I still find it interesting.

    • "I was sure by now,God, that You would have reached down
      and wiped our tears away,
stepped in and saved the day.
But once again, I say amen
      and it's still raining
      as the thunder rolls
I barely hear You whisper through the rain,
      "I'm with you"
      and as Your mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise
the God who gives and takes away."
