    • New to forum, hope i'm doing this right. I had a BKA in Nov 07. I am having a lot of pain in my calf area when I am walking but it stops when I sit down. My Prosthetist has made two new prosthetic and neither one relieves the pain. I read in my Arthritis Today mag that (PAD) peripheral artery disease (blocked arteries) can cause muscle pain when walking It said the more you walk the pain gets worse and that is what's happening to me. I go back to the prosthetist tommorow and will talk to him about this. Has anybody else had this problem? I am using a total contact socket with 3mm ossur dermo wave locking liner.

    • Pony,

I don't know much about prosthetist and their knowledge, but have you talked to your physician about this yet?

    • Hi there,

I had alot of pain in my calf before my amputation, but the reason is still the same.  The reason your leg hurts when you are standing is probably becasue there is a blockage or clot in your leg.  The blood is trying so hard to circulate, but can't and that is the pain you are probably feeling.  That was the case with me.  The only thing I found that worked was to push my leg on the end of the couch and that did the trick for awhile.  You should get a referal to a vascular surgeon to see that there isn't a blockage.

I hope that helps and let me know if there is anything else I can try and answer for you.

      Take care.
