    • My name is Carroll. I'm very active, although I do have cerebral palsy. I do have complications every day, but I work around those. I have 10 dogs. A particular one that I like to play with is a year old and she is a yellow lab. Her name is Bailey. She likes to play ball, and she also likes to go behind my barn that I have and run around. Do you guys have any dogs or cats?

    • Hi Carroll;

      I have two dogs. We rescued them from the animal shelter when they were puppys. One is a lab/shepard mix and the other is a lab/doberman mix. They are great company. You must have plenty of room for your 10 dogs. I would like to rescue some more pups, but we are out of room.

      Stay Strong

      Vinny

    • I have four distinct disabilities that give me round the clock pain. In order to keep the integrity of what little I have of my kidneys, for over fifteen years I have not taken any drugs except for five times when the pain was past pain. I try to meditate, or pray. I just can't allow myself to lose any more of my body to illness or a disbility. It has been catastrophic for me throughout my life time, but this continual pain is almost enough at times to shoot myself. This weekend, I had to go to the hospital only to find out i have a kidney infection. Again pain so blinding and unfeasable it was truly hard to bear. But I have a side view on that as well. I think when we add to the fact of how 'fearful' we are to go through that pain, we allow our bodies to be that much more vulnerable. It is why I have chosen to use my mind to harness the fear where possible, and endure what i can rather than have added medicines still unknown of what they can and will do to your body ravage it to a worse degree. I don't know what else life has in store for me, but all I can do now is try and prepare for each moment and day in its self. They want me to go on dialysis three to four times a day, but I see how soon others seem to go downhill when they are on it more than i (i go two days a week), that I just can't steal myself from that position. I watch my husband and daughter and their concern, and I know there is nothing I can do. So I keep busy to keep their minds off of worrying about me. I have feelings also and don't like to see their beautiful faces going through such difficulties that only I should be facing. What I would really like to do, lol, seriously is find a great pianist, (volunteer pianist) practice for 6 months, and go out and sing my heart off. Too bad, I tried for ages to find a pianist here in San Francisco who loved music enough to join and help out, but guess those days aren't alive anymore. Well, that's how i deal with my condition(s). Plus my punitis and never let a smile drop to a frown!

    • I have found the best way for me to deal with my injury has been to be goal oriented. For me that has involved throwing myself at the things I have always loved. I try to stay as active as possible and take my outdoor sports to the next level. I am involved with an organization called paradox sports  http://www.paradoxsports.org as an athlete. I have continued rock climbing, hiking, and mountain biking. Also, since my injury I have gone surfing, and have started to pursue snowboarding, kayaking, ice climbing, mountaineering, road cycling, and cross country skiing. Right now I am actually up in Whistler, British Columbia with the US Disabled Cross Country Ski Team developing myself as an athlete. I try to maintain lofty goals, and in July I am going to climb Mt Rainier.

      Whatever it may be, try to find whatever it is that you love. A passion. The outdoors, sports, spending time with your family, or simply trying to do as many things in your day to day life without assistance. Be productive and dont give yourself time to feel pity for yourself.

    • Hey Carroll! Wow, 10 dogs, you must be busy! I have Cooper, a 7-year-old American Black and Tan Coonhound, as you can see in my avatar. He is just a loverboy, very sweet and happy. I also have Rudy, a 13-year-old black long-haired cat. He is my buddy. We go outside every day, when the weather is nice. Sadly, I lost my other kitty when I was sick three years ago. He had to be put down because of kidney problems. He was just a sweetheart and I miss him still. They are the loves of our lives, aren't they?

      To deal with my condition (amputee), I just take it day by day. That's all I can do!

      Hang in there.

      Becky
