Just joined and so glad there is a site for those of us who have disabilities. Quick bio...as i have CIDP or Autoimmune Neuropathy (12 years now) which had paralysed my feet and ankles and so i can still get around but i need a cane as i have full blown foot drop in both feet. I'm sure i'll be asking lots of questions about how others here cope with their abilities and disabilities as i know i could use a ton of advice in all areas.
Anyway i know it's frustrating for all of us on here as i myself was a life long Bodybuilder and Racketball player at the YMCA and also a Water Skier and love being outdoors and going to 80's Power rock/New Wave music clubs and concerts and Amusement Parks (Busch Gardens) before this disease so anyway i'll quit gabbing and again just wanted to say Hey !!

Hey Beachgoer ...the other Beach goer (Joe) is back...I also have neuropathy from degemerative discs...I'm affected up to my knees...Use had crutches and sometimes a wheelchair to to get around. For the foot drop I use AFO braces...they are ugly, I hate them...but they do work.
I used to run, work out in gym, surf etc...However, Scuba has become my main workout activity...I dive alot and manage to swim circles around most other divers!

Hey Vinny and thanks for the welcome !! I've been here now since Jan 95. I do like ABQ and the mountains and all but i'ts tough as i also really like the ocean/beaches and when i first came here from Jacksonville, Florida i had family in the area but they have long since moved on.

The other BeachGoer...lol...right on joe. Sorry to hear about your Discs giving you Neuropathy as mine is Autoimmune. Very simular to Multiple Sclerosis as the T-Cells are attacking the nerves in my feet and ankles. Yeah it's a bummer not being able to be active like before as i hear ya. I think if i was never the active type that would be one thing but i've been playing some kind of sports since i was a kid back in the 70's and also was a tradesman in my career for years as i need my feet to move all around as i've never been a desk jockey type...lol...

That's why I love being underwater, I'm weightless & total mobility...even being in the pool with my dive students...I'm back to total mobility.
