    • I am a new above the knee amputee.  I have just gotten my first leg.  I requested the M.A.S Socket, because it was suppose to be the most comfortable for sitting for the research I found.  And since my job requires me to sit quite a bit I thought this would be what I would need.  But now that I have this socket  this is terrible.  If this is the best I hate to see what the worst is.  I would really like to hear from some one who has or is wearing this socket.  Or someone give me some information I can use.  This leg I have is not very comfortable.  It hurts my tail bone all the time.  Do all these legs sit on the tail bone like this.  It takes me 20 min or more just to get the thing on.  The bag I have to pull through that little hole is way past making me sore anymore.  It's now building muscle but I'll not complain about that to much.  And the knee folds up so easy I thought it would work more like my real knee.  This thing just flops around.  No control I can't move my leg out to get it out of the car I have to pick it up and move it.  And try not to break the seal on my leg, because if I do break the seal I have to find a bathroom and pull the bag through the hole again.  And I will have to do that several times a day.  There has got to be a better way of dealing with this leg.  Please tell me there is. Oh another thing it pushes my left cheek up so far I look abnormal.  I look like one side of me has had a butt lift and the other has not.. I need help please tell me I will not look this way for life.

      Thanks

    • I've heard mix reviews on the MAS One of my Amp friends HATED it and gave up on it. Another high amp on another amputee forum had nothing but praise for it. I was considering it when I had my revision but I'm just going to go with a higher socket. If you are a trans femoral or high trans femoral above knee amp you will need to have a socket that comes right up to your hip and take some wait from the bones in your back side. It will take some getting used to but there are softer materials they can use to keep the socket from digging in. You may need to get a cusion to sit on at work because from the sounds of it your throwing out your back when you sit. The socket does cause you to be a little uneven. so when you sit in hard chairs you may need to look into a pad or something to even things out. You're also going to wear out pants like no tomorrow. See if anything can be done with the socket to even you out a little. again everyone is different the length of your amputation and socket requirements will all come into play. The knees will take some trial and error to figure out. I still have to tuck my knee under me when driving to keep it from getting in the way. I also need to take hold of my knee and pull it out to get out of the car. It gets stuck other wise which is really annoying because there have been a few times when I got out of the car but my leg didn't come with me. if your breaking the seal on your liner perhaps you're socket is too big and needs to be adjusted.

    • Hello, Welcome to Disaboom. I'm a BKA and I don't know anything about that kind of socket, sorry. Is this a temporary or permanent prosthesis? I hated my temporary. I had to pull the bag thingy through the hole too. What a pain in the butt that was. My permanent is much better. Antipersperant spray helps me a lot and I don't break the seal and have to change my leg as often. You can find it on-line at AmputeeSupply.com. Kind of expensive, but it lasts and works really well. Good luck to you!

    • Always laugh when you can. It's cheaper than medicine.....

    • Hey, edhodge welcome to the site and the world of prosthetics. I am a double below knee amp. since 1981. I got into the field in 1982 because I like yourself was unhappy with the outcome of my prosthesis. The thing is not everyone has the skills with there hands to get it just right and some lack the patience to listen to the patient. As far as the M.A.S.S. socket design, it is supossed to be one of the best. The trick is getting your prosthetist to listen to your concerns and to work threw the problems untill you have something you can wear and be comfortable in all day. It takes work on both ends to achieve a truly well designed leg for each person. You just have to have someone you can work well with and little by little it will get better. Good luck!!   Bill

    • Hello and Welcome I am a AK also since 9-11-07 and I had some of the same problems that you had as far as getting in and out of the car. I can do it now as time went on you will becomes stronger don't give up. I am a big guy and I can move pretty good with my leg un and down the stairs also. I will say this if your leg is not on just right it will bother you a lot I am a RAK so when I put my leg on I turn it out to the right and as you start to step it will go right in place.
