Greetings - This is my very first posting on anywhere (including Disaboom)

  •  I really do not know what is appropiate to be saying in this , just so  , I will try to introduce myself a little! I am married to my second wife ( our 3rd anniversary is in 5 days ) . I am both a survivor of a massive TBI of nearly 38 years ago. My sweet wife needs some help most days as she also is a survivor of two(2) moderate TBI's plus numerous brain insults throughout her life.I'm a reasonably good cook and I guess that I am an all around 'jack of all trades' also. I try to be as good at as many things as I can be.When I was active duty military I was involved with computers - missiles - and radars. That has been a long time ago - in a different world an in other places .

    I have lots of aches and pains - grunts and groans. Pretty happy to be here to talk about them too!

    Genertally speaking, we are now living in a part of a community where there are mostly retired folks. Good neighbors are difficult to find now-a-days !

    I am interested in trying to meet new people , I get lonely sometimes due to the fact that most 'normal' people don't understand the daily , (sometimes hourly) struggles it takes to be able to function (or try to) in a fast paced society like the one that we live in today.

    I would be interested in learning more about computers due to the fact that I have next to zero memories prior to the age of 21 1/2 years of age. The first three to three and one-half years after my injuries are gone. Just not there any more. I have always and quite likely will continue to try to - maintain a low profile in both my life  - and in the way I try to live it now.

    I've pretty much run out of what I am trying to say.

  • Hi Scot.......you're not required to say ANYTHING here.......sometimes I think it's just a way to connect.....with other people you don't actually have to explain yourself to.......kinda nice for a change....no ?   • Hi Scot, I'm new here too. I'm sorry that you and your wife have had such troubles. It is great that you have each other.                                 I was hit by a car while walking to work in '03. I know how any kind of injury can change your life. I'm glad that your memory loss wasn't worse. I only lost a few hours memory.I was lucky that my head escaped injury ( too thick and hard I'm guessing). Sometimes it's hard to remember that it could have been worse. I have to remind myself every day that I don't have to look far to find someone worse off than me. I can see that you retained your communication skills, you seem smart and articulate.    Happy Anniversary to you and your wife!     Hi Scot 58, I am also a TBI survior. I think life sucks in a lot of ways,,,weighted 135, blue eyes, 5'2, and extremely active outdoors person and one nite after getting up to pee at 4:00 am dropped in the hallway. Out like a lite. Woke up 90-100 days later and found I was tied to machines. I thought I was in my dads house in the bathroom. I guess I was wrong.  With the snap of the fingers, life changed. No warning. I guess I had a burst anyrism, secondary to the anyurism,stroke, embolisim, cyrbral hemmorage, developed phnomeona, MRSA in the lungs, had a trake and feeding tube,,and gained 50 pounds after the first year went by even thou I was very lucky to be alive, I was horrified at what happened and how long I was out for the count. . Lost my three feet of blonde hair on that surgery. Then I went on to have a second anyrism within a year anniversry of the first one, and now, eight months later,  I have a little hair.  Wrong color of course, it is black now....Five plates in my head, constant headaches and am out of the wheelchair and diapers finally. During this nasty ordeal, my father caught my 17 year old daughter in bed with my fiance of five years. No one told me for six months. We were all living together in my dads house while I recovered.  There went half my income out the door (with my daughter)when the conversation did finally hapen.... The family retained guardainship of my life, and proceeded to spend every dime I had and maxed out all my credit cards and bought aGMC truck under my credit, put my house and land up for sale.  After contacting the lawyer, he said they did it legally and there is nothing to be done about it. All costs were valid after the investingation.  Now on my own, guardainship reversed now, I am dealing with the finacial mess. Unfortuantly my land sold, but I was able to pull my house off the market without paying a penalty, but I am saddled with unbelivable debt, not to mention student loans, (two masters and now working on the doctorate)and am starting to catch up and pay some bills. I was really lucky about the medical bills, my insurance paid almost 100% of the bills and I ended up spending less that 500$ for the whole thing. I guess I was blessed on that end. I find that I have no endurance to do anything, and get so tired from the simplist chores.  And for some reason, my bed has become so comfortable, it is hard to leave it. Literally comfortable.
    I find that I like being alone, that way no one can cost me anything. My friends are around alot, but even then I would perfer no company alot of the time.I can't drink or party, the chatter stresses me out, and the extra activity/movement in the house makes me uneasy.  I am working three days a week and go to nuro pt and speech, and attend a doctorate program at the graduate school nearby, so I am not sitting here rotting.  I want to get a part time job on the weekends, but am not sure if I can do it. I will tell you this mess has opened my eyes to what really goes on in the world. I was told this was not an uncommon thing in the family situations.  I found this blog and was excited to read it and thought I would share my experiences. Sorry if it sounds pathetic. It is nice to know  that others that have disabilities are out there too and willing to comunicate with similar people..
