  • Hello everyone,

     

    I'm a C4 quadriplegic paralyzed from the shoulders down and I'm looking for a telephone headset that can use a landline and make and receive calls totally by voice command.  I know that Bluetooth can do this, but I was hoping not to have to go to a cell phone.  I also know that Blueparrot has headset systems that use landlines, but they're not totally voice command.

     

    Any and all information would be appreciated!

  • I have a cheap ($15-20) headset attached to my cordless land line.  But it is not at all voice command.  To get a headset that is totally voice command, are you sure you have to use a cell phone?  (I guess I am asking the same thing you are asking:  Is there such a thing as a Bluetooth enabled land line phone?  I would think there is, but I am not familiar with it.)

  • Hi,

      I worked in the telecommunications industry for over 34 years.  This made me think that I should be able to find something for you with the contacts that I have.  Well, no luck.  The deal is that the land line phone has to have electronics built into it to accept voice commands.  No one has done that yet.  I called manufacturers that we got business systems from over the years and they all agreed that it is something that would be great and sell well, but no one has built one yet.  I am placing the idea with a company that is always developing this type of thing and hopefully we can get them started to work on it.  I am still looking and will let you know if I find something.  It is amazing to me that this is not available right now.

  • Horseman, way to go! How nice of you to make those telephone calls. Once again I am impressed by the lengths some of the people here at Disaboom go to, to help another Disaboomer. I am impressed by your kindness and helpfulness.

  • I have also been looking for the same product.  So far I have not found any Bluetooth products.  The direction that I think probably would work is to install one of the VOIP packages like Skype.  They definitely make speakerphones that work with this type of software.  My computer is almost completely voice controlled and I have a special adapter that connects my wheelchair through an infrared beam.  My wheelchair is controlled with a fiber-optic switching system and once I get to the right mode in the electronics, I can use the fiber-optic switches to control the mouse.  It probably would also work for any type of drive control system, i.e. set & puff, headrest switch or ordinary joystick.
