As you can see from my profile, I am a 27 year old female with stage III heart failure. My official diagnosis is dialated ischemic cardiomyopathy and CHF. Last summer I had two TIA's (mini-strokes) so have now added coumadin to my entourage of medications. Don't ever let anybody tell you orange pill bottles are anything but sexy! I am at top medical capaciity at this point (on seven medications, but seven is the new five you know), and not responding very well. Currently I am investigating the numerous stem-cell research projects going on around the world, and looking into getting a Ventricular Assist Device (VAD). I already have an ICD (internal cardiac defibrillator), so I am thinking, hey, what's another large metal object implanted inside my body?
Primary I am here, I hope, to help. I am well versed in cardiac problems, and would love to help anyone with any questions on the topic. I am also a pro at navigating the Social Security system, and would love to offer advice to anyone that is attempting to swim those icy cold waters.
Besides all that bad news, I lead a really lovely life. I have the most precious small dog, wonderful friends, and a loving and supportive family. I am really missing being able to do the things I used to do, but have tried to replace every lost activity with a new one. Dancing was the hardest to give up, but since I replaced it with clothes shopping, it is not so bad (although my bank account would argue with that).
I look forward to hearing from the community, and don't hesitate to ask any questions.
Most Sincerely,
Sam

I am not into the "Welcome to Disaboom" comment thing, but I have to say that your introduction is one of the finest statements of optimism and self worth that I have seen. Thank you for joining, thank you for your offers of support, and thank you for sharing that sunny outlook that so many need to find. Best wishes. Bonnie
