    • I have been trying to find a simple list of what is different between the quickie shark s and shark handcycle. I intend to buy a new bike and I am looking forward to the shark s. Can anyone out there tell me what it's like to ride the shark s? I currently have an invacare bike and I am looking forward to donating it to the va or selling it. It's 10 years old and has been a great starter bike. But now it's time for me to move up to something better.

    • wycislo,

This info is off the Bike-On http://bike-on.com/index.cfm website.  A good source for handcycles with decent prices.

Shark: Featuring an innovative frame design, the Shark handcycle optimizes riding performance while reducing weight and providing increased adjustability. Advanced features, such as the vertical crank-adjustment, X-link frame separation-mechanism, and ergonomic seat-design, transport the handcyclist to a new level of speed and performance.

Shark S:  Similar in design to its cousin the Quickie Shark Handcycle, the Shark S Handcycle is specifically designed for the serious competitive handcyclist. Using a special new ultra-lightweight frame that is supported by an internal cellular reinforcement-structure, the Shark S Handcycle delivers superior balance and response. If a precision handcycle is what your are after, the Shark S Handcycle is the ticket.

I've ridden both.  If you are racing, you want the Shark S.  I think it's faster.  But if not, the Shark can serve you well and it's a little cheaper.

As for donating your old Invacre,  Great idea, but can I suggest that you find someone outside the VA.  Don't get me wrong. Our vets deserve only the best.  They deserve even more than we are giving them, but in the VA there is a process for them to get equipment.    I think the best idea for you older cycle would be to put the word out at local bike shops and websites for someone that would like to get into handcycling and cannot afford or has the resources to get one.   The biggest problem in our community with people that want to get started in any sport is the cost of equipment. At the same time, many disabled folks have racing chairs, basketball chairs, handcycle, etc, etc.... sitting around their basements and garages not doing anything. .

Someday, I'm hoping to start an equipment exchange website.  Perhaps Disboom can pick up that idea and run with it.

    • Thanks TriDog.

I have seen that from Bike-on and I intend to buy my bike from them. But I have been searching for a more detailed list. The bikes seem the same except for a couple of pounds. Even the sunrise medical web site does not tell me what the differences are.

    • wycislo, Just a suggestion, I think you could call the manufacturer and get the detail you are looking for or ask for Scott at Bike-on when you call them. He should be able to "deliver the goods". Good Luck, David

    • I was wondering if one of you guys that have these fast handcycles could take some pictures and measurments?  I am cleaning up my garage and collecting bicycles so I can start building one for myself since there is no way I would be able to afford one of those, but I do have a welder...lol.  Thanks

Also, how do you get in and out of these?  If there is anything you would change what would it be?
