One of my teachers asked, "How long are you expected to live?"

I would have said "Most likely longer then you".

    •  I tend to be a bit careless in my chair, sometimes I reverse too fast and finish on my back with legs upright hanging over the edge of the seat. I was in this possition on one occassio, a woman came up, bent over me and asked if I was ok. I said sure I always park like this when I feel like taking a nap and closed my eyes.

    • Hi Everyone I am new to posting here but just thought I would like to share this dumbest question ever in my eyes.  I was with my friend in the ladies cueing up (why do we always seem to cue lol).  Anyway there I was on my elbow crutches waiting, minding my own business, when this girl in the cue suddenly turned to me and said "excuse me but can you do it", I looked at her and said in all innocence "do what".  "You know" she said " do it".  It took me awhile to realise she was referring to having intrercourse.  Oh I replied "do it".  "Yeah" she went.  I turned round and looked at her square in the face and said "why can't you".  I left her not knowing.  Geez would anyone go up to an able bodied person and ask such a question, so why ask me.   The person in question was not happy with my response hehehe.

    •  oh my god--the ignorance of some people never ceases to amaze (and disgust) me.i have a hidden disability, but dated 2 men in chairs in the past.for myself, when i lived in florida i used to cash my disability checks at a local grocery store.one day a young kid was at the counter, and he looked at my check and said"you don't LOOK like there's anything wrong with you".i complained to the manager, who was very understanding and told me he'd talk to the little twit.he didn't say little twit, that's my label.i also had people ask me how do you have sex with someone in a chair--"all the time, man, all the time,,," or i'd say "i feel sorry for you, because if you don't have a very good imagination, your own sex life must be pretty boring".

    • I haven't really gotten any stupid questions, but I frequently come across people who think that, since I am in a wheelchair, I must be mentally disabled.  They either speak more slowly or more loudly than necessary.  Or, if I am with someone who does not appear disabled, they will ask that person.  HELLO!  It's a problem with my legs, not my brain.  I must admit, it has gotten me so irritated sometimes that I feel like running them over.  Fortunately, there are enough people who have the courtesy to come up to me and properly ask me if I am willing to explain my disability (which, btw, is spina bifida).  I am more than willing to answer any legitimate questions they have, if only they would ask!

    • Some drunk guy at a party asked me if I could still get a hard on or if I used a popsicle stick and a rubberband?

This was so wrong on several levels:

How did this idiot come up with this idea?

Why is he asking another dude about boners?

Why do people think the disabled are public property who you can ask personal questions to a complete stranger?

    • What is with that tech?!?  He should be fired for such a comment.  Some people are just so ignorant about how it is with a disability.

    • My husband has Spastic CP, he uses an electric wheelchair.

late one evening, we were waiting for a bus, and this drunk Native American came and prayed for my husband.

Another time, a drunk guy 'offered himself' to me if my husband didn't ahem, satisfy me...

one time, we were in Walmart late at night. I was in the rest room, and hubby was waiting outside. In walks this lady with a young daughter and son. The daughter asks her mom, 'is he gonna die?'

The mom answered, 'no, he's not sick like grandpa was before he died. He just can't walk. He's okay'

    • One person once asked me, "How do you make love in the dark?"

Uh, the same way you do, we fumble around until we find where the pieces fit.

What she really meant was, how do two deaf people communicate in the dark....

    • I get asked... "Can you do it?"

I say, "Only if I have a pair of Nikes."

I HATE the religious fanatics who insist if we prayed hard enough that my son would be healed. Uh, sure. I'm sure that was Christopher Reeve's problem too. He didn't pray enough. Yeeeahhhh. Suuurrreee. Uh, buh-bye!

People can be morons. But more often than not we meet good people who aren't total idiots. *LOL*

I just tell them God did this to me and you should not try to f*ck with his master plan. Shuts them up every time!

Remember just because people are stupid does not mean you need to be nice to them!

I once had a woman on the bus tell me that people had these things happen to them because they were sinners, and it was God's punishment for them not having enough faith and spending too much time listening to doctors. " Luke was a doctor who followed Jesus, I believe, and yet still practiced medicine for the rest of his life. Have you read the gospel of Luke? Was he a sinner or a saint, in your opinion?"  I think her mouth was still gaping when I got off the bus.

And, I LOVE your response about the "master plan!"  I may have to use that, if you don't mind.  With expletive altered for the youngsters, of course.

    • The whole religious thing makes me laugh.. What the hell would I want to be healed from? This is normal for me even if it's not for someone else.. I have gotten this healing thing before and it rubbed me wrong even when I was going through my christian fase.. I have also always been a major fan of a certain rock band and I have been told that if I got rid of all that **** stuff that GOD would heal me and all that is wrong in my life would be gone if I would just get rid of all my **** stuff.. I tried that once it didn't help shit.. Gene and the boys are just guys doing what they love and are lucky enough to make a hell of a living doing it Knights In Satans Service give me a break..

I'm glad that the folks in my church aren't like that. Some of them raise their eyebrows when we discuss our different musical tastes (not as many are fans of Alice Cooper or Meat Loaf as I am, LOL).  I will admit, I do believe in the healing power of prayer, but I am also a believer in "Thy will be done."  Even if the prayer doesn't heal my body, it helps to heal my spirit, and that's something we all need sometimes, I think. It's tough dealing with the everyday physical issues, but we usually learn to adapt and do things. It's the emotional stuff, the misunderstanding by others, the beatings we sometimes take to the spirit from people who somehow think it's our own fault, that we somehow "asked for it" by our lifestyles, that can bring us down faster than having to take the second bus because the first one didn't have a chair lift. And I am never giving up my fondness for New York Rock City, Bat Out of Hell, or Loony Tune.
