    • Did anyone else see or have you seen the show Comedy Central ran last night May 13th? The whole thing he did on the handicapped just had my family and I laughing our asses off, it was sooo funny.. I will tell you if you all have not seen this you should look for it on youtube.. If you don't know Carlos Mencia is a standup comic.. {Warning} what I am talking about is very politcally incorrect so if you don't want hear jokes about the handicapped by someone who is not then don't watch this one

I found it Watch these I found a couple of clips:

Go To Youtube.com and type in

Carlos Mencia en 6 Flags Magic Mountains

or Carlos Mancia at 6 Flags

and it gets really good if yo type in Carlos Mancia at Hospital

and you will at least see part of what I am talking about!! Big Smile

    • The first time I saw Carlos Mencia & heard his hanicapped comedy I was kind of shocked.  He is so funny I was laughing like crazy also.  I still watch him whenever he is on Comedy Central.

    •  LOL, so THAT's his name!  I saw a few minutes of his act one night, but never caught who he was.  I will admit, I was a little offended at first (how DARE this guy mock us?), then I realized how funny he was and started laughing my butt off.  Which is a good thing, I could afford to lose some.  I guess I'm still a little sensitive when non-disabled folks that I don't know crack with the jokes, but I'm learning to get past it.  I've met a few folks in chairs that seem to be bitter at everyone who walks on two normal legs, and it just seems to me that life's too short to be that bitter, so I figure I can build a bridge and get over it.

    • I'm sorry, but I just don't find Carlos Mencia Amusing at all. I find him outrageously offensive, and as a young adult with cerebral palsy, I find myself wishing that he would become disabled at some point. Just so that the joke would be on him. He thinks he can get away with anything he wants, just because he's an "comedian," well guess what, people, I seriously think he's undermining our ability to be taken seriously as people and as political figures. I mean, if he's going to make fun of accommodations at amusement parks (not that I think the ability to go through to the front of the line is my God-given right as a person with a disability), it really hurts the disability cause. what kind of accommodation is he going to attack next? The ability to get technological and physical assistance in employment? The right to ramps and automatic doors? I am against the principle of the thing. I think we should be concerned about the image he is making for us. I for one, am very concerned. Especially with the lack of disabled comedians and writers in the limelight. Thank God for Josh blue; but even he, I fear, is not big enough to counteract someone like Carlos. we need more people with disabilities. Oh, and by the way Carlos, I have a message for you: YOU'RE NOT FUNNY

    • I agree with Palsy, and also do not find Carlos Mencia funny or accurate in his skit about people that have disabilities and use wheelchairs. He states that unless a person with a handicap comes up to him, says and admits that Carlos Mencia is "better" than a person with a disability, he would give no accommodation to the person. Why does Carlos Mencia believe he deserves to have other people bow down to him, might it be an inferiority complex? I would admit the fact to him that he is "better" than me in the use of his legs when compared to my wheelchair only if he admits to being an ignorant, and offensive low-life for needing that kind of a reaction from someone that has a disability.

    • I think you miss his point when he talks about being better than someone he is saying that no one is better than anyone else, people are equals..  He doesn't believe that people should bow down to him.. Offensive is in the eye of the beholder, I don't find him offensive at all.. I find him very very funny, he is talking about someone that is a good friend of his by the way..

    • I agree with you, Palsy. He doesn't seem to get the point of equality at all. Like the sexual harrassment thing... wtf? What does that have to do with equality? Equality means we can say and do whatever we want? Um, no. Equality also has nothing to do with whether or not we can walk, something he doesn't seem to understand. Access is NOT about special privileges.

    • Make what OK? Having fun.. Have any of your AB friends ever said anything about you that made you laugh, about your handicap or not? I don't get the contraversy.. Does everyone have to be PC (Politically Correct) now days.. Here you go I have Cerebral Palsy I jokingly call myself a cripple sometimes, is that wrong of me to do? If he has a friend that has CP that gets what he's doing, that does make it OK.. Hell it's even a good thing.. Because it shows Able Bodied people that at least some of us have a sense of humor and can laugh at ourselves.. You don't have to agree, but that's the way I as a handicapped person feels.. I didn't mean to start a debate with this thread!!

You're using the classic dodge when people have said something offensive: blaming it on other people being too PC. (not that you have said anything offensive) If a thing is offensive, it's offensive no matter who says it.  I don't happen to like the "n" word, which means I find it offensive no matter who says it. Just because Carlos Mencia has a friend who has CP or whatever he has, does not mean it is somehow less offensive that he jokes about people with disabilities. It also isn't a proper argument to state that people who find these things offensive somehow do not have a sense of humor. That's just ridiculous. Would you say the same thing to someone who didn't find racist jokes funny?

    • Are we talking a standup comic that is purely telling jokes because it's funny and fun, or are we talking about a racist and is saying these things with some aginda in mind? I would not support Carlos or anyone else who meant harm to others.. Bottom line is Carlos means no harm by what he is saying or doing.. You don't have to agree with it or find it funny yourself if that's how you feel.. Some of us get it others don't, and that's fine.. Carlos tells jokes about all races and people does that make him anything other than funny to some and offensive to others NO.. Guess that means he does what he does for a living very well..

    • I found it to be very offensive. It IS possible to make jokes about disabled people cutting in line when you've been standing there for four hours (that concept is pretty funny), but he crosses the line when he tries to mimic people with mental disabilities and talks about how the person can't even feel their legs.

You're missing my point: it doesn't matter why a person says something that is offensive; it is offensive no matter who says it. If I were to make fun of the way someone with speech issues talks would it be less offensive because I am also disabled? No, of course not.

And you know this, how? Again, it doesn't matter if he means harm or not, harm is still the consequence.

Um, I "get it." I just don't think it's funny and I do think it's offensive. I'm also glad to know that my students generally find him offensive, too. It's good to know that the younger generations are learning a thing or two about why racism is still so prevalent in our society.
