I just found this site and hope some of you can answer a question for me.
My best friend is 53 and was diagnosed with ms almost 9 years ago. She was getting avonex injections but no longer gets them. I visited her and her husband yesterday just as they were gettting her medication set up for the week.
This is what she takes: trazodone, prozac, baclofen and namenda. I tried to do some research and it looked to me that all these were - were antidepressants and muscle relaxers. Do you know of anyone else that takes this kind of medication??? Any info you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

I don't have MS but do know from taking Prozac that it is an antidepressant.

Trazodone--If I remember correctly, it is classified as a tricyclic antidepressant. But I took it to relieve my pain so that I could sleep. The problem was it gave me a terrific hangover.
Prozac--For some reason, people with MS experience clinical depression with greater frequency than the general population. Prozac is very effective; it is my antidepressant of choice.
Baclofen--probably the cheapest and most effective drug for muscular spasticity. Widely prescribed among MS patients.
Namenda--I am not familiar with this drug; I would have to look it up.

I've had MS for at least 24 years, and my doc recently started me on Namenda.It is an Alzheimers drug, but Dr. Mass, here in Portland, Oregon, found that it has some efficacy among MS patients. Namenda is used to treat moderate to severe confusion (dementia) related to Alzheimer's disease. It does not cure Alzheimer's disease nor MS, but it may improve memory, awareness, and the ability to perform daily functions.
I've been taking Namenda for less than two weeks, and so far don't have any adverse side effects.

Hi Donna...I'm new here too. I have MS and I am on 2 antidepressants (Desipramine, Welbutren (sp?) ) I'm on them because they help control my migraine headaches and I'm sure because of them I'm not so hard on myself anymore. My neurologist told me that many people with MS suffer from depression too. I know for me, I have my moments, but for others it's more than a moment. I also take Midrin (when Migraine occurs) it's a muscle relaxer and I also take it for the days where I hurt all over and from being in pain I 'tighten up' and it helps.

hi donna my name is aisling i have ms too i have been on prozac and baclofen ,prozac is an anti depressant which i found very good but a bit to strong for me it lifts your mood to and just made me laugh all the time,baclofen is a muscle relaxer which stops spasams and eases pain its very good i am on it at the moment due to a car crash ,i am sure your friend will be fine ,depression is not uncommon in people with ms so try not to worry as for the other two meds never even heard of them sorry but hope this helps , take care ASH

I take trazodone for sleeping,prozac's and anitidepressent,problem with it is it only last for 8hrs a day,
I took baclofen for yrs , it's a muscle relaxer. Namenda I'm not formiler with this.If you need to know more about something try putting the name in your search box and you should be able to read up on it, or you bye the pill
book at any store,and you will be aboule to look up what it's used for and side effects.
