    • Mary:  Do not panic over this thing.  Although a pulmonary embolism can kill a person, if you do what your doctor says, then your risk will be negligible.

A major factor that leads to pulmonary emboli is lack of physical activity.  Hence, people in wheelchairs, people on long airplane flights, etc are at risk.

I guess what I am saying is that this is a fairly common problem, and the coumadin treatment is very effective.  I know this is a very scary thing.  I know coumadin for the rest of your life is a royal pain.

You would be surprised at how many people are in the same predicament.

    • Hi Mary,  My name is Mary Beth,  Look,  I know that it is scary, however, I take coumadin, plavix and on aspirin a day...I had a blood clot in my arm that traveled down to my hand...Did you have pain with yours? I did, and I was a raving maniac..They thought I was on herion.  My husband got so mad to even suggest that.  Even though I was on drugs, it wasn't herion...I , by the way have been clean for 6 years now  After my blood clot went to my hand they thouth I was going to lose my hand, then my fingers, and I only ended up with just losing the tip on one of my fingers. Thank the Lord..The pain and the grossness you have to go throuogh looking at your hand dying and then coiming back to life again was a rude awakening for me,  That happend in September of o4  By October of 04 I needed a quad by pass.... Only ended up with a double.  Since then I have had 3 stints put in.  Now with FMS and not being able to do the things I want to do now that I am straight again Is the pitts. I would like to tell you that to have Faith in your Dr.  Take your meds everyday, do not skip any at all....Lets face it we are all going to to die oneday... I am not afraid,  I am not ready.... Yes vitamin K can be a little sticky, however, if your are going to a coumidin Clinic....They may tell you that you can have salads and greens, but to limit them...I enjoy my salads to this day,  I watch out for the dark ones, I still eat them, however, not as much as I use too...Believe in yourself and your Dr.  if he is not answering all your questions, then find someone that will.  I am here for you, so writie when ever you want.... Have a Great Day    Mary Beth
