Anyone with information about scopolamine and it's affects on levels of alertness/responsiveness in someone with a TBI w/diffuse axonal injury? I asked that my husband be resumed on the scopolamine patch for his excessive drooling after having them discontinued due to his developing a raised, reddened welt under the patch. We tried atropine drops orally, but I found them ineffective as he drools them right out.
24 hrs. following the application of the patch, he was more responsive verbally and overall. This happened with the first use of the patch several months ago. Once the patches were discontinued, he seemed to decline in alertness and verbal responsiveness. Now he is again "brighter" and "clearer".
Anyone hear of administering via g-tube rather than topically? Whatever information, links to articles, personal experience, advice...etc, is appreciated! I am a RN, so will do well with anything you can offer out to me!
Thanks,
Sherry
