Almost everybody likes to travel. The question is, what's the best strategy and what locations are most accessible?

Hello people, everywhere.
I have just written my first blog on this site. It is my experience of my first day out since i found myself in a wheelchair. My blog will be of interest to you if you live or visit the UK. I experienced first hand the service and the problematic access difficulties both on Buses, Trains and at one of the biggest Theme Park's in England. Please check it out.
Im also submitting this post because where ever you live home or away. UK, USA or otherwise. I want to know about your experiences of access in local businesses, restaurants, banks, hotels etc. Have you had a nightmare day? Have people recognised you have a disability and gave an outstanding level of service?
Im sure we can all learn from each other, little tips that make it easier when us wheelchair users go out and about. Please don't hold back.
Also, i am in touch with a company that are hoping to launch a access for disabled website. If you are planning a trip out somewhere, whether its to the shops or something more exciting please let me know where u are off to and how it goes on the accessibility front.
I am not a business guy myself, i just want to make a difference and build a portfolio i can present to people to show what difference something small can make to a disabled person visiting their business, organisation or attraction.
See ya xx

I want to say CONGRATULATIONS on your day out! ! ! Also, the web site sounds like a great idea. Your other questions--what can I say? They cover so much ground-- the life of someone in a wheelchair seeking independence is very complex, difficult at times, rewarding at others as people show support and compassion. I will give your issue some thought, and PM you with some suggestions, areas of ease and difficulty to help make the future a bit smoother. Goodo again for your first outing, and good luck on all those to follow. Regards, bonnie

Hey Chris! I'm so glad to hear you were out and about in your chair. The company idea sounds like a very good thing for yourself and others. Way to go!

I love your goal! I wrote an accessibility article about a tourist town in my state of Michigan. My husband and I go there frequently and we made it a goal to try all the restaurants in town and share what we learned about getting in and out. I included information on parking, bathrooms, sidewalks, and getting around. After I sold the article, I posted links to it on all the Michigan tourist sites I could find. It gets quite a few page views so it was worth the effort to write, I think. Feel free to use the link and a short excerpt if it fits in with what you're trying to build.

God, I wish making live links was easier on this site. I can't figure it out!

Hi Jean, if you were to highlight the word you want to link, the "link" icon on your menu will light up, and if you click on that, you can enter the hyperlink to link to the website you're trying to link to. Hope that helps!
