In case y'all haven't seen it, Matt Scott has been nominated for an espy for best athlete with a disability. Matt blogs on Disaboom, allowing us all to go along for the ride in his bid for the gold with the U.S. paralympic basketball team. You do have to register, but it's painless: Vote!

Thanks for sharing this Liesl. Way to go, Matt! I voted for you. I also voted for Brett Favre a few times too. I hope you're a Packer fan! I've been to UW-W several times to see the Drum Corps International finals. It's a nice campus. Good luck to you! Go Warhawks!

Six Paralympic Athletes Nominated for ESPY Awards  

 

 

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE  COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Six U.S. Paralympic athletes have been nominated for 2008 ESPY Awards by ESPN.  The ESPY Awards annually recognize outstanding achievement in the world of sports.  

 

 

Best Male Athlete with a Disability:

Matt Scott - wheelchair basketball (Detroit, Mich./Whitewater, Wisc.),

Phil Scholz - swimming (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) 

Marthell Vazquez - soccer (Long Beach, Calif./Virginia Beach, Va.)

 

 

Best Female Athlete with a Disability award:

 

Patty Cisneros – wheelchair basketball (Lake Station, Ind./Champaign, Ill.)

Susan Beth Scott - swimming (Cape Girardeau, Mo./Colorado Springs, Colo.) 

Jessica Galli – track & field (Hillsborough, N.J./Savoy, Ill.)

 

 

“It was a shock, but a really good one,” Galli said about her nomination. “I just had a really, really good racing year in 2007. To be honest, it’s really nice to be recognized for that.”  

 

 

Shay Oberg and Ryan Kocer were also nominated for the award, competing in softball and wrestling, respectively. Winners are selected solely by fan voting.

 

You can support your favorite Paralympic athlete by casting your ballot online now through July 12 at 11:59 p.m. ET at http://promo.espn.go.com/espn/specialsection/espys2008/#/voting/.  According to ESPN, more than 12.5 million votes were tabulated last year.  The ESPYS will air July 20 on ESPN.

I got this email today.  I have raced with Jessica Galli. She is one tough athlete. I actually should say that I've been beat by her a few times.  I will be voting for her.
