I was diagnosed in April, 08, although I know that I've had MS for several years.I was doing really well recently, {remitting, I guess}. Then last thursday I had a really bad fall, bruised my hip, arm, cut my lip. etc. I have a brain stem lesion which affects my balance, vision. Well, since the fall, my MS symptoms have come back in full force. I'm wondering if it's a result of the traumatic fall. Has anyone experienced this? It's very discouraging.

Hi Sally
Although i do not have your condition i am also newly diagonosed. I started getting back pain in early April 2008. I was diagonosed in May with Root Nerve Irratation at L4/5 in the back and have now spent the last three weeks in a wheelchair.
In the last three weeks i have had a couple of falls in the bath and also at the local swimming pool about a month ago. Having a fall really has knocked my confidence. I swear that my back pain is worse since the fall and im worried i might of been mis-diagonsed. I went swimming because i was told that the exercise would be good for me but by the end of the swim i had problems getting out of the pool and within 2hours i could not walk and ended up in Casualty. I am now scared to have a bath on my own (i live alone) but this is very frustration especially if my bowels are playing up and i want to feel clean.
I been on strong painkillers since April and i have definately noticed my memory and concerntration has got worse and i often stand up too quickly and feel dizzy and faint.
Just sharing my experience with you and others. If we all hang in there i pray that things will improve but it is the unknown unfortunately.
Take care, Chris x

I think that all of us occasionally are jolted by our disability, whatever it might be. My disability is much different from yours, but yet much the same -- I cannot see, so I have mobility issues, but different kinds of mobility issues. Occasionally I get "reminded" of my poor vision by something happening, similar to your fall. The physical bruises might not be so bad, but the mental ones can be much worse.
A few weeks ago I managed to get myself lost in an area that I thought I knew well. Even though I didn't suffer any physical mishap, it's like my confidence and general sense of well being took a hit. But you just have to throw off those feelings of frustration and bounce back. Easier said than done.
Good luck. I hope you are soon feeling much better, both physically and mentally.
