Greetings all..............here is the encapsulated version of "my story". 10 months ago, I spiked a very high temp 104.8, losing my balance and slurring my speech and was rushed to the ER. I was dx with pneumonia and when I awoke, I was tremoring wildly with no muscle control or speech ability. The doctors three days later found legionella and what I now officially had was post infection legionaire's acute cerebellar ataxia at age 42 in peviously very good health. Using a time line we think I contracted it in a sauna while on vacation in Maine Only 3% of legionnaires develop any follow up problems.
Initally in rehab, I was like a spider on acid. My torso while assisted standing rocked back at 45 degree angless. My 2 MRIs were clean and some Dr.s postulated "its your blood". This is such a rare disease I welcome any feedback and suggestions.
I am currently doing much better athough I have a long way to go. Currently, I lack any sense of balance so walkings out of the question though I am working with a great new PT specializing in balance and can see walking in then future.
I also love people and interacting with them.......perhaps thats why I became a therapist two years ago. I am also a hellva smart ass and very much look forward to chatting and meeting you!!!!
Sincerely,
Pioneer

Hello and welcome to Disaboom. They are a very friendly bunch here and give much support and empathy.
I have not got your condition but will be suprised if someone on this site hasn't. My balance has never been great and i learnt to ride a bike without stablisers around 3years later than all my piers simply cos of having a rubbish balance thing. I always used to laugh at my nan because she would go into a shop, look around, come out and then loose total sense of direction and not know from which direction she came. That's now me and at 35 not 75. Oh well, these things are sent to try us.
Hope you enjoy this site, take care now x

Hi Pioneer. Must have been the pits to go from healthy to dependent in one quick episode. I'm rather glad that what happened to you is rare <grin>. Here's wishing you the best in continuing your progress and getting things back to how they were. Good luck.
