15 years post sci compression
crushed the sacrum and went up the line causing paraplegia
2 years ago i started feeling tingels in the knee
i lso noticed wet was different than dry
now i can tell if i have had abowel accident and know when i am passing urine (had the procedure to make it open long ago)
also the waist to the genitals went from spotty to like magnified.
anyone else have this experience?
Dr said miracle but it is not fully there but i do have a reflex at the knee now. none at the foot though
tried to stop bowel program and it had bad results can tell i am going but cannot do much to stop it or start it off at the right time.
Dr says this might be simply because it has gone so long incontinent that i could maybe retrain now/
this migh sound weird but i am scared of this being real in a way. to get the hopes up and then to have them flattened woudl suck worse than never having them at all.
i was told the nerve regen would only happen in the first few years. for me it has been a looooong time, so i was not expecting it.
the other thing is the knee has been hyperextended so mny ties that i am feeling how much it hurts when i transfer on it.
anyone with a like situation or regen anywhere after many mooons would be helpful.
how did you deal with it?
it is supposed to be a good thing, but the wet sesation only sucks and the exas cath is even worse for me.
i cannot get comfortable now no matter how i try to manage the elimination.
i was told it was funny to have such good news that they are talking about a set of braces but be bummed out about it. no matter what i do, i am not comfortable now period. knee always hurts and the rump is itchy sore and raw feeling. but i have no breakdown.
just curious on your thoughts.
been lurkig here a fair amount, but am nervous about posting.

No reason to be nervous about posting, you say that you have been lurking so you should have been able to see some of the stuff that people posts (some of it is not that special). This is quite a post though, I would be happy with getting more feelings and control back. I am a T-10 and I am getting my stomach muscles (upper ones) back so I am trying to work on them. When I was injuried, some of the old guys at the hospital told me that if I get anything back to keep using it to build that muscle up at least. Just do what you can with what you have. Good Luck

Hi Amen that you are feeling sensations To me with God everything is possible and without God nothing is possible I am a incomplete quadraplegic , Broke my neck nearly 30 yr's ago and then recently broke my mid back and neck all over just a year ago so i've been having nerve problem's for a long time . Since I was a teen kid . Time flies ...
I'll say this personal thing in my life ... Last year was very testing I never knew how fragile my body was and in the split second in a stupid freak accident I was a vegitable Broke up many bones in my spine major scary neck surgery and ugly scar's now dont bother me and all I know is I never give up .
Totally paralyzing me from neck down to my toes I mean no feelings . Now I am feeling tingles herer & there and I am happy knowing my body is very slowly letting me know it is healing Thanks to God .
Dr's told my parents and my friends I would never do much of anything Vegitable because of the extent of my injury and the level of the vertebrae in my neck and back but everyday I work dillegently and hard to try making efforts on everything and anything .
Looking back hooked up to a ventillator just breathing was a problem I overcame and got off it on my own because I told the dr take me off it and if I die then I do willingly and when them hoses and junk was unhooked from me the rest is history , It took me much time and lot's of hard pain to get this far and so many sci patients know it is deep what I am writing .
What I speak here is from my heart I am not complaining but Rejoicing and happy to be alive .
Regeneration is glorious and I firmly believe time heals wound's Can take us many many years to feel things again and who knows what is in our futures but I feel good things will come to positive people.
Nerve Sensations / Regeneration is possible and good as rough as these bladder & bowel problem's are for so many of us especially SCI folk . I say good because I believe tingling and pain are good sighns of feeling IMOP , no pain no gain . I also dont believe Nerve Regen happens over the next few years Actually to the contrary Nerve Regeneration will happen when ever your body is making it happen There is no true time limit on when SCI patients Recover or regain , regenerate in my opinion . There is no Factual true time scale to posssibilities and regeneration .
Every moment and day to me is a new blessing and new learning factor because I think Positive . Also my past unotrhodox Free Style Martial arts keep's me in focus with my pain managment to a great extent and just learning how to deal with spasms and clonus etc is enough lol... Trembles / tingles and pain is Feelings and imop it is positive to feel anything .. I rather feel something than nothing. Bladder / bowel management is one of the hardest things sci patients live with / deal with .
The human Brain is capable of everything it is the most complicated element of life and we all have abilities to do the impossible things when you least expect it to happen . I too am having super rough times with my bladder and bowels etc.. but I will alway's trust in the Lord .
Everything is possible
Think positive and Best Wishes
Sincerly
MissHarley

thanatos...thanks so much for sharing this and giving me hope. I go between wanting to accept the fact that I am in a chair for life, and wanting to believe that my body will regenerate. I try to have faith...without getting my hopes up....lol. I'm T6 para, supposedly complete, 10 months now. One therapist felt I was misdiagnosed as complete since I have some sensation returning below my injury level. I was told 18 months to two years is when the most sensation will return, but sometimes it can happen much longer after that.
Have you done anything different to stimulate the regeneration? Change of diet ... exercise ... on new meds or off old ones ... anything out of the ordinary? I read that the Mayo Clinic is experimenting with B vitamins for nerve regrowth but have not been able to locate the study. I have been dealing with a lot of nerve pain in my back, it feels like it is rubbed raw and on fire, but the skin looks fine. They say it is a good thing. I deal with it by drinking beer which also help relax my legs muscle spasms, but I worry that it might inhibit the nerve regeneration.
Thanks again for sharing this...and welcome to The Community. Hope to see you in the Chat Room.
