    • Hi Tazcatm...  Just wondering, you made the title, but nothing in the text.. Was there something you wanted to know about DDD? Or say that you have DDD? I was just wondering, I also have DDD...          Take care!   mbw

    • Hello there KaraSwims!!  I am new here, I did go to introduce myself, but so sad... no one said hello back to me.. Crying

Anyway, to answer your question, DDD stands for "degenerative disc disease"..  I ruptured L1-L2 many years ago, and they operated somewhere around 2 months later.. the disc material oozed out and wrapped my spinal cord, some got a little floatie in there, too.  I had spine and spinal cord surgery *and* they also added in a lumbar laminectomy.. (I think they did up both to cover thy butt, so to speak..lol)  Well I'm so very glad to have finally been able to say hello to someone! Hope to talk to you again.. (looks like there are many up like me at night... hard to sleep, uh?)  Take care of you!!  mary

    • Hello mbw! Big Smile I'm pretty new here, but I'll say welcome anyway.

I also have DDD.  Although nothing's ruptured yet, I have a couple of affected lumbar discs and a couple of affected cervical discs, as well as cervical stenosis and spondylosis.  No surgeries though...they said there was nothing they could do in my lower back (too many levels affected), and I'm trying to hold off on anything in my neck until it's absolutely necessary and/or they get new and better procedures.  I don't like the idea that the surgery could make it worse or better and it's too much of a gamble.  Plus the radiating pain I have is one-sided yet the herniation is in the center, so they're not even sure that surgery would help the pain I have.

Did your surgeries help?  How are you doing now?

    • Nice to meet you Innerglow!  Sorry I didn't respond sooner but some days it's too much to sit.. Anyway to answer your question.. No and kinda... The whole reason for the surgery was because the neuro Doc was certain that I had a complete block, not to mention that I was pretty fond of walking by that time in my life.. (ha ha... almost 30 when I had the surgery) The docs asked me what I would most want.. tho I doubt that even now that they could have garenteed anything, and I wanted to walk, of course I wanted to walk the way I had before I was injured.. what's the old saying..? Beggars can't be choosers..? Careful what you want..etc?  I scarred badly afterward, so I have like a permanent rupture.. 4 more neuros don't want to touch...the devil you know, the devil you don't.. I have pain, big time, all the time, and I have to walk w/cane.. Hope to keep that as long as I can.. matter of pride, you know.Wink Or maybe just plain pig-headed..  I'm glad for you that you can hold off.. but I have to wonder how much pain do you have? Do you have to medicated to control it?  I'm so glad you responded!! Have a happy day!!   mary

    • DDD- Does anyone have more than one family member afflicted w/ DDD ?

My older brother, Myself and my youngest sister all have DDD, along with a number of other problems. Is this genetic ?  I have had 2 surgeries and need at least one more. I have DDD, RA, and Spinal Stenosis. My brother has DDD, Scoleosis, and Arthritis. My sister has DDD and Lupus.

We all have had ops and continue to fight the good fight, but are losing the battle.

All of us have to control our pain w/ meds. I take morphine, and Ultram, along w/ other meds I can't afford. Need more surgeries.
