I did get something called "ticket to work and I wondering if the program works. What are some of ya'll experience with the program. does it work...or should I continue to try something to do from home on my own? thanks for any input.

Becky,
This came up, briefly, in another thread. What is a "ticket to work"? Since being n SSDI, do you need permission to go get a job? I don't understand what it even is.

i don't know if it works or not.what it will do is train you to learn another trade or skill at no cost to you.once you learn that trade, they will find you a job and you work for 6 months to find out if you like that new trade.you do not lose your benefit during this trial period.if you decide you don't like what you are doing or get ill, then it's easier to get back on the benefit.this is what i read when i got my ticket to work, but i am not able to go to work as of yet.i hope this helps.

Ticket to Work does/can work, especially if you are set up with a counselor who is very knowledgeable in that area. There are new regs on Ticket to Work, which makes it more flexible in terms of services and time frames of earnings. Here's a link that has a lot of information: http://www.yourtickettowork.com/program_info. You have more of a choice in choosing a provider of employment services. The goal is to help individuals return to work, or to work at their full potential...

I wish it did work, but what usually happens is they put you on Work CDRs after 9 months. Then they CDR you every five seconds, it seems. It's very stressing and if anything, only makes it worse. They like to cut benefits if you work for even a slight second.
If you feel the need to work, do small jobs, where you get paid in cash. I can't even do that, but once ina while when I have a "clear" period, and am not paranoid, etc, I can mow a lawn. I usually buy a movie ticket with the meager pay and see a movie. Other than that, I mean, most of the time I'm just... out there. Yeah, I'm intelligant. Yes, I can type, but right now I'm not on medication, with Schizo-affective, and most of the time is NOT good for me. It's so bad that I'm DYING to get on my medication again, but SSDI doesn't pay me much. Every 3rd of the month? My check goes right into the landlord's pocket. But it's either that, or go up the street where all of the homeless disabled people are, begging their social workers, HUD, etc, for help. I'd rather die than end up like that. No, really, if it comes to that, I will kill myself, it's a horrible fear for me.
I hate CDRs. I've got mine coming up and I get anxiety attacks just thinking about it. I can't afford a doctor because of my rent, what happens if they cut the benefits? I end up homeless, and even more worse off than I already am.
Ticket to Work is, a carrot on the ground, and when you bend over to pick it up, you get the stick.
You Ticket, they stick it.
