Afternoon Y'all
I am thankful to be at home, in my own living room in one piece. I did something I said I wuld never do....I went to WalMart the day before school starts......its a great deal like the day after Thanksgiving.
We had to find my oldest grandson shoes for school, he was wearing socks cause he lost the only pair of shoes that fit him. So it was a have to do sort of thing. Being on a budget (i didn't win the lotto last night) we decided to find him shoes at Wally World and maybe the few school supplies we have not gotten.
We were in an hour and a half into our seach when i realized i was not gonna make it much longer so when I saw the "bathroom" sign i pulled out of the herd of shoppers and started in that direction. I was tooling along in one of store's mortorized carts and asked at the information desk if I could get it in the restroom. I was told that others had so go ahead. What they didn't tell me was the secret of getting back out once its was in the room. I got inside, only grazing the walls slightly and scaring a couple people.
I found that a mother and her six children had apparently set up camp in the handicapped stall. Everyone, it sounded like had to get their diapers changed or delighted in touching the floor so the mother would have to rewash everyones hands. Finally the parade exited and I was able to use the facilities.
That was when the fun began. I backed out of the stall...seemed the easiest but then I forgot how to do a three point turn backward. After several attempts of turning around, with getting too close to the wall, and almost running down people who had to wash their hands at any cost....I got out of the cart and physically turned it anough to go forward. Again, I ran into the wall but found that if you keep the cart moving forward it will eventually turn as you want it do. Needless to say I was frazzeled when finally regained freedom. Will have to rethink the next trip out maybe with a folding cane.
I'm sure that you who use motorized chairs have problems all the time but as a new user of such...I'm gonna see if I can't work out some else. Is ther a secret for getting in and out of such a tight squeezed area? Of course there was no way I was getting back in the fray for the rest of the school supplies we didn't have.........I WANTED OUT!!!!!
thank goodness my daughter felt the same way. She took the boys to the truck and I paid for the shoes. Oc course another drawn out process.
I think I will go back to my old habit of going to Wally World at 2 a.m. when the only people there are high on something and have the munchies.
blessings and huray for the beginning of school

I've never been to a Wal-mart in my life. I don't know why there is so much hype about it. Where I live you'd have to drive a good 90 minutes just to get to the nearest walmart. Not worth it to me. The school kids are almost back in school after a few weeks of that shopping during the week shouldn't be so crowded.

The best "tip" is going to WallyWorlds family/handicap restroom, made for single-use... its usually back by the lay-away department in the back of the store. You'll find that it is large enough to drive into - and theres no one else to run over. VOILA!

thanks for that information. that will make my trips to Wally World, and i am there almost as I am anywhere else, more comfortable. I knew I'd get good information from this group.
I also realized that this the only group I could tell that experience to and would get more than OMG!! you shared that story!!

I've had motorized vehicles wedged into more places than one might suspect! <L> I've dragged clothing caught on wheels thru stores. I've been stuck in handicapped stalls. The usual...
I keep a sharp eye out for those 'family' bathrooms everywhere I go nowadays!!!

Becky,That women with six kids, had better been disabled or one of her children was disabled. If she wasn't sorry but i wood of felt like slapping the shit out of her. I will not put up with that kind of shit. When i see cars parked in the handicapped parking wrong. Here in colorado there is a program set up where anyone can sign up for monitoring the handicapped parking spaces. You write down the plates number you can even take a picture of the automobile. the police will give them a ticket. You know i'm disable, but i make it a point of not getting a disabled parking pass. many friends tell me i should. It isn't gonna happen, but i will report abuse.Take careand god bless you i'm really not a bitch. There is just no excuse for it.
