Prayers to WPB who just underwent DBS. The night before the surgery, which you have to stay awake for, WPB came to the chat room. What he found was support from the disaboomers. We all gave him support and a place for him to say he was scared to death. We told him to remember we would all be in the room with him. This continued and it was getting late but people stayed on longer than usual to be able to give him support and people to talk to. The next day in the chat room we wondered how he was doing knowing he'd be in no shape to be on the disaboomer chat room. But what was really amazing was to find out that one woman stayed online til 3 am because he couldn't go to sleep. This is what disaboom is about and in the chat room a week earlier someone else with parkinson said he had had Deep Brain Stimulation and that was passed on to WPB. WE all are wishing WPB the quickest recovery and we await his name on the chat line once again. Parkinson may be new in the discussion category but we've been meeting plenty with it on the chat line. Welcome aboard!!!
how is he doing ? i am being told that they want me to get it done and im not sure if i can stand some one messing up there i am quite scared and never been scared of anything before i have 2 kinds of tremors and they say it will help both of them hope he is doing well Bob
I'm a speech pathologist, and I had a patient do marvelous with DBS....and that was 5 years ago when he had it. In the meantime, you might want to check out the company that makes positive recordings for specific rehabilitation topics, they even have one for parkinson's caregiver. www.independentachievement.com Prayers are here too!
Guess u are talking about me being the other with the DBS.. Dont put it off.. if they say u are a candidate go for it.... cant believe how much better life is now.. and yes like they said i needed help out of wheel chair to operating table..but 10 1/2 hrs later i slid myself over to the gurney off operating table...then got off gurney and walked in my room and changed into clothes by myself.. cound not believe it.. but please go for it. i waited 2 yrs ... and should not have what a difference.... The worse thing i is putting the halo on. and once its on its a piece of cake.. now mine was 10 1/2 hours ofnot moving your head.. by the way....you are awake for the whole operation because you have to move certain body parts for them to see how they are doing.......but you dont feel anything because there is no pain in the btain.... well anyway its all history now still not a walk in the park all the time with the tune ups you have to get , and the bad days you sometimes have.. but im still so glad my wife finally convinced me to have it done....I know its scary but so is $3.24 a gallon for gasoline...any questions please ask me i will be happy to tell you anything.. but please dont put it off ....GO FOR IT..
That's a really cool strory Gail-I hope he's doing better and it's nice to hear how Disaboomers support each other. I see it every day and it's really awesome to know that in big moments of fear-everyone rallied for him. Hope he checks in with us as he feels better.
