I am 35 years old and I have Becker M.D. I quit working about 17 months ago I worked at Lowes Home store here in Abilene Tx for almost 10 years and it got to where I had to quit because of all the falls I broke my foot twice and busted my head countless times and it was like screw this man I gotta do something so i filed for disability and finally got a lawyer and I am waiting for my case it has been really hard ,all of it...and no job, no money, my wife has to do it all work and stuff she really loves me and now I been seeing a Dr. for my disease through the MDA if you and you have muscular dystorphy you can go though the MDA and they will help you. MDA and a Dr. helps out alot here recently I been using a wheelchair when we go out the freedom it is so awesome I use to never wanna go any where and with that wheel chair I am free to wheel my self any where it is great I just posted this to see how many peopel out there was like me and to help those who are and dont know about somethings that I have learned and Ihope I helped you with my statements and if someone knows anything about Beckers or M.D. let me know thanx wayne stevens

Welcome to Disaboom! Looking forward to seeing you around as my disorder comes under the MDA's research but is not one of the 12 named dystrophies.
New site here and even a newer release (version 2) of the site within the last 24 hours. After the "chatter" about the site changes calms down a tad, I would expect more responses to your posts. Hang in there! Nice to meet you!

Wayne: Good Evening my name is Timm and I also have Beckers MD. I can remember the day when my doctor/friend at MDA clinc told me...I think you should start using a scooter so you dont hurt your self when you fall.
Now looking back it was the best advise I ever had. I was to the point where my legs with no notice would give out. Falling it took me longer to recover.
I think I was more kidding myself then anything. I thought as long as I am not in a chair, scooter etc maybe people, co workers, girlfriends etc just would not know.
When in fact they new something was different but they just didnt care!
Once I got to the point of getting a scooter I searched and and searched and at the time had a new pearl white S-10 step side and talked Pride in to custom painting a 3 wheel scooter with the same pearl white paint, had someone custom the seat to match my truck.
The 1st day I got my scooter it was on a Friday and headed out of Phoenix to LA where know one knew me and spent the whole weekend at the beach up and down the board walk...it was a blast!
The best news is I was not tired and didnt have to worry about FALLING!
Its kind of a catch 22 the more I used the scooter the more I got weak, but the more I didnt get hurt.
Now I am 49 soon to be 50 and 8 customized scooter and now power chairs later live is GRAND!
I work for a great company www.cox.com and have the best wife in the world! She allows me to enjoy my passion www.sxgp.com so we travel around the country, and we work with others to learning how to get out and enjoy life.
So my advise to you is, dont look at where you came from but look where your going. Try to deal the best you can and let the MD be a trait in your life not the decession maker on how you live it.
One day at a time and in our world (my wife and myself) we life it like its my "rainy day" we live today just in case tomorrow dosnt come!
Please feel free to email me if you need anything.
