I may be wroung however six months is the time you have to be off work, sing up because six months is about how long it takes to be approved.Your doctor has to fill out forms, and you will be asked to go to a SS doctor for there input and then they make a rueling. You will get reto funds in the end it took me a year and a half to get mine. It's not retirment SS.It's SS Disabilty and you cant work. They have a program that lets you go back to work and stay on SS while you see if you can still work. But watch out, read everything, cross all the T's and dot all the I's they act like your trying to rip them off.I lost my right forearm messed up my left hand and walk like I have a wooden leg when I sat down with the lady at SS for the first time she asked me when I noticed my arm was missing.--hello
Good Luck
