I have a handicap called Arthrogryposis, because of it my hands/arms are barely functional. I wass wondering if I could replace them with prosthetics? Here's a pic of me: http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa234/synbios459/MISC/SUNP0054.jpg
I'm 22 btw.
Hi Azurehth,
welcome to disaboom.
I'm certain Your hands are a great challenge to You. But You may want to take into consideration tht today's prosthetic hands are barely functioning, too. The technology to move the digits separately and individually is still in its infancy.
And even if You get one of todays finer prosthetics, that are moved by transmitters on your nerve's ends, You would have to go through a lot of schooling to learn to use it.
Most likely You will be fixed up with a simple mechanic hand, that doesn't work any better than Your own.
And what's more important: a prosthetic hand has no sensation!
But I'm no hand amputee. Maybe somebody who is can tell You more about how prosthetic hands work really.
I wish You all the best.
