    • LOOKING FOR A SWEET Rental "HOME," ideally with garden, and A SAFE ENVIRONMENT, temporary if needed, until the Sweet, Happy Home . . . All ideas welcomed with an open heart and mind. Floor level. Please contact me at dchristia@gmail.com Monday February 4, 2008 Hello to all,  Ms. Muffy Davis, director of market development for Disaboom —a smart, funny, compassionate, woman—suggested I write to you, the community, to ask for your help in finding a home before March 1. Yes, March 1st.  I had a place set to move until a few days ago.  So here goes. I am infinitely grateful for Disaboom.  I love the name: Disaboom. One can surely feel a bit disaboomed. I do.   An exhaustive, anxious, search for a place to live. I must find a place now before March 1st.  Need to leave Los Angeles. I live in the Santa Monica Mountains, very beautiful, much in love with the wildlife, wondrous ecosystem, birds, I am a birder. But cannot afford to live here any longer; machouses replaced affordable cottages. Once settled into a home, I too will have the ability to contribute to you, the community, with joyful, infinite gratitude. Receive SSDI. I can move to most states in the U.S. or . . . all thoughts welcomed, encouraged. Reading Barbara Kingsolver's book: Animal, Vegetable, Miracle, I would love to live in a similar environment of eco living and I too love most of Virginia. I have a dear friend there but not a place. A small, safe, environment?    I would love to live on a eco farm or home. Maybe I could oversee, encourage, children or animals or both. Garden. Housesit. I may be able to help with small things. Once, settled, I look forward to a deep, delicious, breath of fresh air, several, at least, and to have the opportunity to engage in life again. B.C. injury, athlete most of my live: hiking, running, kayaking, climbing, naturalist. I taught  children K-6 about our lagoon, tidal marshes, watershed education, our environment.  Also loved working with At-Risk teens.  Volunteered: Watershed Committee Member, Steelhead Task Force, we have Federally endangered steelhead fish.   Worked with a great group of folks as part of a permanent exhibit titled: Chaparral: A Story of Life from Fire. Performed water quality for 2 years, baseline studies., frogs, bats, turtles found only. (To identify the small, albeit, quick-footed turtles, we used natural colors of nail polish) Enjoy gardening, plants, animals, insects, people. On board of the historical society. Hard to believe: volunteer editor-at-large.  Love people of all ages: Art. Cooking. Music. Color. Laughter. Global issues.  Organic gardening. Ecology, Collect and plant heirloom seeds, essential "food" for soul and heart and life. Many library adventures for the aging pioneers of the Santa Monica Mountains. Books on tape . . . Cookies baked for our Finest Fire Department, homemade chicken soup for anyone with sniffles. Injury at L3-L4 S1, Implants, chronic burning. The burning feels like the root of a small tree, deep, on fire, the size of my palm, deep.  Difficult. In desperate need of a place: temporary, permanent. Never thought I would need a place to stay but I do. So, I am not sure how to proceed.   I surely do not want to live in my car disabled.I am fearful I will not find a home in time. March is just a four weeks away.   A little story that I hope tells you a bit about who I am: Edna a dear friend to many and to me, fell one day while we gathered at our community of  eight 1920s bungalows preparing for a celebration. We were a family.  Edna, rushed to the hospital for stiches on top of her head. Not as bad as originally thought.  Edna told us to go home. A friend will retrieve her and bring her back to us. Edna did not return. Calls to the hospital. No Edna. Our precious, funny, 70 year old, Edna. A lifetime in one community, a storyteller of storytellers. Someone suggested calling nursing homes. Calling, all along hoping she was not in one.  She was.   Our beloved friend, found in bed in the nursing home in the middle of the day. I feared her spirit left her. A wheelchair in the room and a back door saved us both.  Home again.  Spirit intact. W.I.S.E., a non-protift organization that helps elders find roommates to help them live independently, helped us find a woman to room with Edna and voila. Life returned to our bungalow community.  Edna lived a lively life for another 12 happy years with her original W.I.S.E. partner that we loved too. So, in a b i g nutshell. That's some of my life. All ideas welcomed with an open heart and mind. Please email me as soon as possible at dchristia@gmail.com If you should have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. Please, share my email address with anyone you think may be of help. I thank you for your time reading my letter. Please email me at dchristia@gmail.com with, Infinite gratitude, take care, Annie
