Hi everyone,
I am brand new to this board this week. I have a question for those of you who have Chiare Sydrome. Lately I have been having food get caught in my throat on the way down. I am not choking it just get stuck. If I drink water it just sit on what is stuck. If I wait long enough, it ethither goes down or comes up. It takes forever and it hurts. Lately I stick to foods that are soft bet even they hurt sometimes. I also have had a really bad gagging cough for about seven months that doctors can not explain. Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing or has experienced any of this. Thanks .

You need to see your neuro-surgeon if you haven't already to see if your chiari needs to be decompressed, rule it out. You didn't mention your level of SB and age - I don't know if tethered cord can cause that or not. There are also non-SB reasons - problems with tumors on the *brain fart* I want to say hypothalamus but that's TOTALLY wrong...whichever it is that's at the base of the throat...pituitary gland?.... A friend of mine had a benign tumor taken off in that area, it was causing problems with swallowing.
Demand MRI of the area, and if that shows nothing, ask for a swallow study.
I'm sure others will have more ideas.
