So after the CP chat on Friday night, I thouht I would post this.
What startles you?
Being touched unexpectedly especially from the back
Objects being thrown to me or at me
Loud noises less often
Me to...It's my space bubble
My ex-girlfriend has CP and even though I have Spinal Muscular Atrophy , I think I can participate in this thread. Whenever we went to a movie loud noises and fast action would trigger her startle response. She would jump even if I warned her that something was coming.
Here are my top things (in no particular order):
More like what doesn't startle me!
1.noises ( loud or unexpected)
2.sudden moves
3. strobe lights

You know, it was not until last week tat I even heard about the startel syndrom with P. I am 36 years old. I thought it was just me.
Well if that is the case, anyone else can not stand loud places Not startle effect, I am talking about it just makimng you just so antsy you can not stand it.
I hate the happy birthday song reutine in resturants. Really, arghhhhh. Whats worse is places like Roadhouse not only mamkem the people sing but they must dance
so you have really bad singers and really bad dancers interupting your dinner and calling attention to your table. Or others Its like I just wanna eat dangit.
To add to my list people walk around and making noise upstairs...
1. Motorists honking their horns for no apparent reason.
2. People cutting right in front of my wheelchair.
3. Strangers reaching out to touch me.
4. Unexpected loud noises.
Stay Strong

Wow I thought it was just me also, untill I red this threat, thank you for starting it..I am 39 and I just learned something about CP I didnt know(of course I was in my thirties when I learned I even had CP!
What startles me :
Being touched espeicaly if I don't know its about to happen
load noises even if I know there going to occure,
water tempture change
For me, it's definitely loud noises. I.e., people yelling and balloons popping. I'm living in a house right now where somebody is renting a room, and every once in a while I hear something crash upstairs and it scares the stuffings out of me.

I startle when I'm reading in a quiet room and someone unexpectadly walks in. I never thought it could be related to CP. Now, when I get really scared or after a really hard workout my affected leg will shake like it's trying to jump off my hip.
I get startled and upset about it when I'm in the shower and my boyfriend quietly comes in and suddenly starts talking to me...i could loose my balance and down i go..i no longer use a shower chair, but now lock the bathroom door
trent: my stump will start shaking back and forth sometimes after a loooong day on my prosthesis...its annoying isn't it?
For me, it's just the usual loud or unexpected noises. Now, the real question is, knowing this why would I go to the movies and watch a scary movie, I mean they are ment to scary peoples!
Just trying to live is somethimes so funny. What do you do when all your friends what to see something like "The Eye"? I actually had to leave the movie it got so bad. And truely that was the scary part. I'm 24 and still trying to learn to deal with everything my CP comes with while working and dating and just plain livin.
Sorry if I got off topic. This was just the last major "jump" event I had and wanted to talk about it :-)
