    • At one time or another in our online communities, we will probably encounter someone who is depressed and suicidal.  We may encounter this more frequently here because depression is a common secondary condition for someone dealing with a disability.  As a community, we need to offer our support and kindness to these individuals.  But the question is: what can we do when we’re thousands of miles away from the person and can’t just jump in the car to go over and be with them?

      Communication is the Key:

      • Be willing to listen and offer a shoulder to cry on
      • Show that you truly care and are concerned
      • Offer resources for professional suicide prevention support

Excerpt from the USA National Suicide Hotlines website:

      my heart feels your pain,
my tears are for you now
      to help you get through.
Others who are here at this site now
cry with you and for you too,
      and for themselves.
      Let their hearts
care for you for a moment,
      for an hour,
      for another day...
