    • I am a quadrapligic with good use of my right side and limtid use of my left. I am in an electric wheelchair but the help I need is to get up and get down, showering, geting on the toilet, cooking and house keeping. I am on my own most of the day and at night. I own a cat and he likes to sleep with me. I go to school because I like to talk to people and I am an artist and I get inspiration from being around other artists. I am as self sufficient in any way I can be. Tom

    • It took a while for me but I can get up & down by myself now. I cook, clean, & take care of 7 y/o daughter.  I recently learned to drive & it is absolutely the best thing ever. I, for the most part, love my life. I just wish I knew more people I could relate to.

    • C/5 6 Here also incomplete  Got hurt while on vacation visiting a friend in Fayeteville NC. I am very independent and can do all of my own care except putting on my socks and trimming my toenails. My right hand/arm is strong but not so much my left. I also have almost no trunk strength. I used to drive with hand controls but drink so much now I gave up driving before I hurt myself or someone else. I am from Ohio and still have a 4 wheeler ATV I ride. I am a senior in colege. It is very nice to meet you and feel free to write me back. From the looks of your picture you have just as much ink as I have scars. I don't have any tattoos but am considering acquiring some more scars before I die. I have always liked tattos but just never got one. The scars just seemed to keep coming naturally so I decided to go ahead and collect them. 30/m --Greg

Hi LCG - welcome. You've made the most crucial step in connecting with people 'like you' by reaching out here at Disaboom. I don't know anyone else who has a spinal cord aneurysm, or who had an AVM hemorrhage in their spinal cord, but because I said 'hello' to others in a forum for people with similar malformations I've made so many friends who are very similar to me, and with people from forums who also have SCI.

TriDog made a great suggestion about the wheelchair sports. Also, if you've got a little time and are inclined and able, you might consider doing some volunteer work. Once I began volunteering for various projects with a group for malformations similar to the type I have - a health fair here, a conference there, fund raisers here and there, etc., I began to make friends from right here where I live, to other states.

You have the world ahead of you as far as connecting with people. Once you get started - between talking with people on sites like Disaboom, and exploring suggestions such as have been made in this thread, the possibilities are endless - the only limitations are the ones you might impose on yourself. Have a great time and great fun!!

Another great site I know about where you can connect with lots of other wheelies is: http://sci.rutgers.edu/

    • Greg you have little movement and your body does not have the range of motion it used to. Drinking alcohal is probobly the worst thing you could do other than huffing glue or doing meth amfetamens. So the cards are stacked againced you unless you want to die sooner. Good luck Tom
