Hi there - I blog here and am loving this site, the community - everything! If I could suggest one tweak, though, it would be to allow anyone who wishes to comment be able to do so. For instance, my Hubby has read my blog here, as well as some others, I think, and he'd like to comment but doesn't want to go through the process of registering (even though he knows it's free and wouldn't take him long to do). I think he feels that, since he's able-bodied, this is not "his" site - so he doesn't want to register. But I know he, and certainly other non-members, would definitely comment if they could easily do so.

       Thanks!

      Amy

    • Amy, I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying Disaboom!  You are on my list of favorite users so I can easily find all your blog posts.  Great stuff!

Tell your hubby that this is not just a site for disabled people; it's for family, friends, and caregivers as well.  And registration is so simple these days that it only takes about a minute.  We only ask that you enter your name and create a username/password; no long list of questions.  Then he would have access to all the resources that a family member/caregiver would need to support their loved one.

As for your suggestion, the system is designed so only registered members can post comments to prevent unwanted spamming from non-members.  This enables us to moderate the forums better as well.  If we see spam or abuse, we can easily take action to eliminate it.

Anyway, tell your hubby we look forward to seeing him online, right along with you!

    •  I actually appreciate the safeguard even though I realize it's true we might get more comments if you could comment anonymously (which is often what happens when you don't require registration)...I totally respect what anyone has to say about my thoughts and opinions expressed on my blog but I feel more comfortable if they are at least willing to identify themselves in some way. Believe it or not there can be some very hateful remarks regarding issues like Ashley X and assisted suicide...It's not constructive when people just spew nasty remarks with no "face" so I appreciate that we have to register to comment...it really is very fast and I think all are welcome!

    • What does everyone else think of this issue? I know I've had lots of cowardly anonymous comments on my off Disaboom blog; perhaps the forced registration is a good thing?

    • Yes, definitely a good thing, Liesl.

I understand everybody can drop in and read along, and I think it is okay. But I really like to know who am I talking with. I like this closed community. It -usually- gives me a sense of security. (Having trouble in that department.)

    • I agree, Daisies. Besides, it's nice to be able to go look at other people's profiles and blogs and get an idea of where they're coming from.
