Ugh, I just had an entire post typed up, links and everything. What did I do? I closed the window. Gah! One more time as it nears 2:00 A.M.:
I love reading blogs and I assume I am not alone. I also assume I am missing bunches of good stuff, both on Disaboom and off. So, let's share! Here's my list:
On Disaboom:
Matt Scott is a member of the U.S. paralympic basketball team and star of his own Nike commercial.
"At the international level everyone can play the game. Each team has studs. There are more than a handful of teams that have a great chance of taking home the paralympic gold medal. It takes a great team to win it all, and one of the things that make this team great is the dedication that each players show."
Tim always provides interesting information and insight. Especially when he likes my blog posts.
"what do you think? Should Doctors start using email more to communicate with patients?"
Kara is such a great writer and has interesting ideas for post. (And I suspect she is also the kind of person who would forgive someone for forgetting they were having an IM conversation and closing the window. Not that I know anyone like that.)
"I always attempt to stifle my amusement when someone tries to describe a disabled person to me using every descriptor possible EXCEPT the one word that indicates the person's obvious differences. Usually, the single attribute the person is terrified to utter would be sufficient to communicate who they are talking about and get them (and me) out of the whole awkward situation much more quickly!"
Ecrowley is just cool.
"What do you think? Salamanders can regrow body parts…Do you think the same is truly possible for human beings as well? How successful do you think AFIRM will be?"
Jeff Charlebois is hilarious!
"A few weeks ago I came across a small opened wound on my tucas. My heart stopped.
I knew what it could be. A pressure sore. Why me? Why not Barbara Streisand?"
Mlc1451 is going through chemo and trying to deal with life as a teacher who is sick. She is amazing!
"News” like this makes me want to SCREAM! WHO authorizes these “studies”? The Salad Institute of America? Nike walking shoes? It’s beyond me, that I’ve always done everything I could to prevent cancer, and yet, it snuck up on me anyway. I try to stay positive and move forward, yet it’s a blurb in a magazine that throws me off temporarily from my drive to finish my treatments and move on with my life."
Off Disaboom:
Andrew Sullivan Is A Fraud
"Regardless of context the phrase “’still survive long enough’ for the crew to be rescued” doesn't exactly fill me with confidence. This should be of paramount importance to the Navy's central concept in building any ship let alone turning a high-speed civilian ferry into a warship. (Kinda reminds me of the ole SNL sketch: "New Shimmer is both a floor wax and a dessert topping!")"
Cheaper Than Therapy
"You would think after the raisin incident (where Big Kid consumed 2 pounds of raisins meant for holiday baking in one night and thought aliens were laying eggs in his digestive tract when he crapped out a bunch of undigested gray rehydrated butt chunks the next morning) he would have learned his lesson."
Respectful Insolence
"In the U.S., we have freedom of religion. We also have freedom of self-determination. If a competent adult wishes, he or she can refuse medical care for religious reasons or virtually any other reason. If an adult wants to sacrifice his or her life on the altar of religion by refusing medical care for a life-threatening illness, the law and tradition permit that. Children, however, are a different case. Because they are not yet competent to decide such weighty matters for themselves, tradition and the law both give the ultimate authority to their parents or guardians to make such decisions for them. The assumption behind this, however, is that the parents or guardians will act in the best interests of the child."
Southern Poverty Law Center blog
"For the most part, members of the Michigan State University chapter of Young Americans for Freedom are equal opportunity haters, spewing bigotry in the direction of anyone who isn’t white, heterosexual and Christian with more or less equal zeal — except for the Jews. Although MSU-YAF dabbled in anti-Semitism last fall by hosting British National Party chairman and Holocaust denier Nick Griffin, the student hate group has never blatantly targeted Jews.
Until now."
Post Secret
You just have to go to this one.
Crooked Timber
"It reminds me of how, as a teenager, I spent several years asking catechism teachers ‘if I am forgiven my sins in confession, then what is there to talk about on judgment day?’. Result; I’m a practicing Catholic who hasn’t been to confession since I was 17."
I'm going to bed! Next?
