Hey is there a web site for ideas on designs for your sockets??? they said i can cut things out and have it laminated into it.. Just wondering if theres a site for ideas or if anyone has pics?
Hey SoreFoot! Yes, I got mine at Fredslegs.com. It's run by a guy who is a BKA, I think, and his wife. She gets the fabric and does all the sewing. They have fabric for laminating and also for suspension sleeve covers. They have some really cool designs and they have a free monthly drawing where you can win a sleeve cover. Really nice people and very helpful.
I can't figure out how to get the picture to post here, but here's the link, if you want to see my leg. I have the picture under my profile too.
The way I look at it, might as well really give them something to stare at!!!

Oh, I forgot. I bought the fabric from them that was already pre-sewn, and then gave it to my prosthetist. He laminated it onto my socket for me. He told me too that laminating makes your socket a lot stiffer. I found the stiffness helped with support. You can wear the suspension sleeve cover over your prosthesis too, just for a change of pace. It might be better to call them about sizing for the suspension sleeve cover. I sized mine wrong and it comes all the way up to the top of my thigh. I like it though and kept it, even though they offered to exchange it. Like I said, very nice people. Good luck!
Hmm.. so all i need to do is find some fabric I like and bring it in? What's with the sewing? I can't sew to save my life or my fingers. Ughh decisions, decisions.. grrr but I like the idea of added support. Do you have to wear a suapension sleeve if you use the suction method?

Check with your prosthetist, as to what he/she wants you to do. If your prosthetist will laminate your pros with fabric from right off the rack at the store, then go pick some out. My prosthetist said you had to have a special type of fabric, nylon I think. They do the sewing at www.Fredslegs.com. all you have to do is buy the design you want. Your best bet is to just go to the web site and look around. Click on the amputees section and look for a design.
Suspension sleeves hold the prosthetic to your leg. Its a big sleeve that covers the pros and goes up onto your leg. If you have the suction type, you don't have a suspension sleeve.
Good luck!
YAY now just to think of what to use.. solid color. design use comedy or sports theme.. grrr
Hey sorefoot, My ex husband was a bk amputee has had all sorts of designs. He prefers not to have cosmesis put onto his but to leave it with the metal work showing. He has had wild patterned designs like, crocodile skin, leopard skin, multi-coloured patterns. When our first child was born some 5 years ago, he had a t-shirt made of polyester printed up with her face on it and had that put on. Anything you want, its all possible these days!
