    • Hi, I am, like many of you, new to this site and need some guiding.   I hope to find someone with a disability similar to my own.  I have an auditory proccesing disorder which changes what I think I heard, and what i should have heard.  I sometimes am treated like i am mental.  If anyone has this disability or close to it write back.

    • Hi Adaptation!

Welcome to Disaboom!  My oldest was diagnosed with CAPD (Central Auditory Processing Disorder) when he was in elementary school.  It IS frustrating for him to "think" he heard something, because then he's afraid to get clarification in case someone thinks he's nuts.  Totally get what you're saying!

    • Smile Hi! Adaptation, I am also new, I sure feel like maybe this will help with that isolated feeling from the world of people who just get up, walk, work, make money and for years viewed me as lazy accept when they need legal help. I have to say, my friends and family realized perhaps not to late , after two years of complaining of pain and losing over 100 lbs, that I could not eat normal or sleep from pain. Well, it was by a freak accident that, I had a CT Scan prior to a Colonoscopy, and there it was, a mean growth in my Pancreas, no chemo to kill it, no radiation, so, if it was advanced, I would be a dead duck, but it was not and I am here, with a good chance of it returning in 5-10 years, but I am living now.

My new philosophy, the sun is always shining, as long as I am alive.

      Thanks, and hello to everyone.

    • Hi, welcome to Disaboom!  I'm Karen, a deaf mom of three deaf and hard of hearing kiddos.  I can slightly relate to you, because what hearing I have left has me hearing all vowel sounds.  So nothing makes sense to me unless I can lipread or someone signs.

I've learned to take charge of  the communication process and ask people to clarify, repeat, rephrase or write it out.  :)

Hi adaptation, thank you very much for your posting.  I have never been diagnosed with an auditory processing disorder but over the years I have and others too thought there was something wrong.  I am inclined to say the opposite to a question, not just a yes or no answer but sentances.  I do have a hearing impairment and despite now wearing hearing aids the problem still exists.  This is quite bizzare as I have a BA Hons Degree.  What I do find however is that I am able to relate to questions better in writing.  Not sure what this signifies.

Thank you very much for posting this as it has made me, without being horrible to you adaptation, feel that I too possibly could have an auditory processing disorder.  Not sure how to go about finding out here in the UK or whether I would want to find out and just carry on living the way I have been.

Once again thank you very much.
