    • Hello.  I am new to disaboom but already love it.  I am the parent of two children adopted from China, one of whom has a spectrum of relatively severe learning disabilities due to conditions in her first two years of life, spent in a remote and very poor orphanage.  She is "in there"... we are teaching her strategies to overcome and she will be attending a new, amazing school in the fall but always looking for more, new ideas and support.   She is a beautiful, loving child who tries so hard and I am so very, very proud of her.  Is there an LD group here?

    • I am new to disaboom also. Actually, I signed up last month or the month before. I was very anxious to become involved and very excited to find the site.  However, I have had a chaotic couple of months or so due to family situations and have not been able to spend anytime online..  Hopefully things are now under control so I can become involved. The reason I am responding to your post is , I had an accident that left me like a 9 month old baby and I had to learn all over again.. I would love to chat with you regarding your daughter, if you would like, and  maybe I could be of some assistance to you with her.  Also, I have a friend in North Dakota that adopted two children from China.  They are preciou. She did not gain custody of the first child until she was almost two . The second child came to live with her when she was 4 months old.  The one that was almost two, had a lot more to overcome, it seems, than the second child.  They are both doing great though and both have really adjusted and show great signs of advancement. They are now 5 years old and 3.

    • Welcome to Disaboom.  One of the great things about this site is that if you don't find exactly what you are looking for you can create it yourself!  Would you consider starting your own group or discussion in the forums?  You'll probably find a lot of people with concerns similar to yours and who might be able to help you.

    • Hello!

I think in responding to your post in way of welcoming you to the community, no one has clearly answered your question.  You can click on groups (top left once your in community and choose the "view all groups" option.  If you don't find what you are looking for, there is a "start a new group" option!  This might just be YOUR opportunity to improve the site, as well as offering a new perspective that will further bless our community!

    • Hey Rsroge! Welcome to Disaboom. I don't know if there is an LD group. Hopefully, someone will come along who knows that answer. Good luck with your two kids!

    • Hi! My son has dysphasia and this affects his daily life. I have been his advocate all through school. I.E.P.s ,psychologists, language and speech therapists, evaluations, coding for services.YOU will have to advocate for your kids all through their school years. My guy is in his last year of high school and graduation is coming,He has a part time job, he passed all his courses except physical science which he will repeat this year, but you must know that all is possible.Frustration affects behavior and that would be the first thing you must watch out for, that a calm approach towards learning is key.Baby steps are positive steps.Learning disabilities are different for each child because every child learns differently. You will eventually find  along with your child little tricks to help them along their way.My son just passed his drivers test but he could not write the answers so he did it orally and he passed.Alternative learning and finding teachers who have a great rapport with your children.Personality conficts as they get older may cause concern for some teachers so be aware and have their class changed right away at the first sign.Make sure that their teachers are certified in special needs  and double check to make sure that they are.Become your childrens biggest advocate and they will be successful.
