Sarah Palin was born in Idaho in 1964, and her family moved to Alaska when she was a baby. She is the daughter of 2 teachers and excelled both in and out of the classroom. She was active in many clubs and went on to attend the University of Idaho and majored in journalism. In the late 80's she married her high school sweetheart, Todd Palin.
After returning back to Alaska, Palin served on the City Council for 4 years in Wasilla, Alaska. In 1996 she became the mayor of her hometown and held true to her promise to reduce spending and taxes. She reduced her own salary and property taxes by 60% and in 1999 won re-election as Mayor of Wasilla with a bigger margin than in '96. After being defeated in the Leuitenant Governor election in 2002, and being passed up to replace the winner as a Senator, Palin was appointed the Ethics Commissioner of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. She served only a year before resigning because she felt her fellow Republicans were acting unethically. After her resignation she started an investigation and some of the politicians were forced to pay fines and resigned.
In 2006 Mrs. Palin decided to run again for Governor, and she declared her 3 main priorities were education, public safety, and transportation. She received hardly any support from her own party, but still managed to defeat the Democrat Governor, Tony Knowles. In December of 2006, Sarah Palin became the youngest Alaskan Governor and the first woman Governor of Alaska. Throughout her term as Governor, Sarah has worked diligently to rid her party of unethical leaders and working to reduce Alaska's reliance on "federal dollars" and working to making the state more "self-sufficient".
Gov. Palin is pro-life and opposes same sex marriage. However, she supports same-sex benefits under the law. Palin's office is under investigation as to whether or not she abused her power in firing an official, but as of yet no charges have been filed and her office is said to be very cooperative in releasing files and anything else requested.
Gov. Palin and her husband have 5 children, from 18 years old to 4 months old. Her oldest, a son, will be deployed to Iraq in September of 2008. Her youngest, and only other son, was determined to have Down Syndrome early in the pregnancy, and pro-life groups applaud her for choosing to have her son. The Palin's have been very involved in their childrens' lives, including being PTA members and team coaches. Sarah is also a NRA member. She is a woman who has posed to Vogue magazine, but also ice fishes. She can dress up and go to a formal dinner, but still hold her own with the men.
On August 30, 2008, Republican Presidental nominee, John McCain announced he was choosing Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate. She is the1st woman to ever be nominated for a presidental ticket in the Republican party, and the 2nd in history(the first was chosen by the Democrat party in the late 80's).

Sarah is an example of what we would like to see all of our politicians to be. Truly a servant to the public and not a "me first" attitude we see of others. Talk about disabilities...with a child with Downs, she has a challenge that most people would run from...I know, as I have a niece with Downs, and I know what my relatives have to deal with. It takes a very special woman to chose life is this situation vs abortion. More to come, but the political race is now wide open and I think the right choice will be made by Americans.
As far as me, I "lean" to the "right" (as a BK amputee)....and I'm "stumpin'" for McCain/Palin.

I didn't really put my own views in my original post, but I think Palin is a great choice. I think she will appeal to a lot of voters, including those who support prolife causes, women, Chrisitians, conservatives, NRA members, and many more. She doesn't come across as your "run of the mill" Republican and she isn't afraid to call her own party out when they are doing something unethical. I think she is just the person McCain needs if he wants to "shake up Washington" like he said in his speech this morning.

From one of Alaska most well respected columnist Dermot Cole said and I quote “Sarah Palin's chief qualification for being elected governor was that she was not Frank Murkowski,” further more "She was not elected because she was a conservative. She was not elected because of her grasp of issues or because of her track record as the mayor of Wasilla."
Plus she hates polar bears and eats moose burgers!

Norma Carroll:She's gonna be a real asset on that ticket...........SOMEONE was thinking !...............peace and love.......Norma
Yeah she was mayor of a town of less than 9000 and governor for only two years of a state that has a population the same size as the city of Memphis. I really want her to be making decisions on issues such as Iraq, Afghanistan, Russia and oh yeah international trade.
Wasn't McCain pissin and moanin about Obama's lack of experience......yeah someone was sure thinking....
but I have no idea what they were thinking.
