With all the political debate going back and forth, I think we all need to take a minute to remember why we love our country. So much of this election season has been spent complaining and addressing the major issues in America. While I think it is good to talk about the things we know need fixing, I think we need to remember the great things, too.

 

I think that it's wonderful we have the right to complain about our current state. In so many places of the world, people don't have the free right to say what they want about their government. The fact that we can stand up and say, "I don't like that policy", and not be punished for it is a great thing.

 

Our military is another thing I'm thankful for. Whether I agree with the war in Iraq or not is irrelevant because I still support our troops 100%. They are the bravest men and women and they do a job that most of us don't and wont do. Everyday they get up and fight for us and don't even know the majority of us. Even those of you who don't support the military are protected by them. They do it because it's their job, because they love this country.

 

I also think it's amazing how we will be a part of making history this election year. In a lot of other places around the world, minorities such as the ones we have running for offices today would not be allowed to. It is only because we live in America that we can see this history being made. And to know I am a part of it is great. No matter what the outcome, history will be made.

 

 

I love our country because political debate, and yes even mudslinging are allowed.

Great question Perf.........I love this country because we can say anything........without fear of retribution.......we can drive from New York to California........without ever being stopped......to be asked where we're going.......to show papers etc etc......we have freedoms here that.........all we have to do is leave the U.S. for foriegn soil........before we appreciate the freedoms we so easily take for granted. I love this country because of it's diversity........in ethnic populations.........I love this country because of it's beauty............because when there is help needed anywhere in the world.......we're one of the first to step up to bat.......I love this country for it's fine military...........for the pride with which they serve...........I love this country. because we can dis eachother till the cows come home...............but let some foriegn presence attack us..........we'll come together like we never had a disagreement in the world..............I love this country..........period !...........peace and love.......Nprma

We should also remember that this site has (and welcomes) members from all over the world.  "Our country" does not mean "The United States" to everyone here.  We should probably be specific when referring to "Our Country" in topics if we are only going to talk about the US in the thread.

• PerfectlyImperfect we have very different political views in many ways but I have to tell you I am so very proud of the fact that as a young American woman you are so engaged in the political process of this nation.  Women were not even afforded the right to vote until 1920 and only after a long and difficult struggle for suffrage.  As far as I'm concerned anyone who wants to take my voting rights away will have to pry my vote out of my cold dead fingers.  You keep on keeping on young lady because no matter what your party affiliation is you are part of the future of this country and your willingness to become involved in the process of governance is exactly what our founding fathers built this great nation upon.
