I'm a 19 year old male with Congenital Muscular Dystrophy. Due to this, I'm in a wheelchair from morning to night. My issue is the underwear I'm wearing currently. Right now I wear boxer-briefs. I find however that they get bunched in my groin area easily and get twisted too. I've worn boxers before, but they were even worse. I've been contemplating the use of thong underwear. It might be a slap to my manly-hood, but here's my thought: a) there is little material, so less bunching in the groin, b) with the back being only a thin piece, they won't twist around as easily because of such little material. What do other males in wheelchairs wear? What do you think of my reasoning? Thanks
Hi I hope that you don't mind me responding to your post even though I am a woman and not in a wheelchair.
I have had my own discomfort issues with 'regular' underwear over the years and this is my solution. I buy exercise leggings and wear those as underwear or cut them off at the knee and wear them that way. They stretch and don't bunch anywhere. I have had a couple of guy friends over the years who have done this as well or used bike shorts. I also wear tights as an under layer. May or may not be something that you want to check. Lots of very 'manly' men wear tights and/or pantyhose for different reasons. Joe Namath being one of the most famous. As far as the thong idea, I have worn them and the piece that goes between the cheeks is NOT comfortable and I would think that the ...um...er...(how to put this delicately?) male anatomy would not be comfortable with a thong. What about a jock strap or cup of some sort??
Peace, T
I don't wear underwear

Why would the piece that goes between the cheeks NOT be comfortable and why would you think that the male anatomy would not be comfortable with a thong? How would a jock strap be better/different?
Not sure if this'll help. I wear briefs. I have had the same problems with boxers and boxer-briefs as you have.
As for thongs, wear them if they're the best for you. I'm assuming you're straight, right? If so, then just remind the girl you're with that you're into her when she sees them on you. I would suggest some of the companies geared towards gay men if you're looking for fashionable male thongs.
I've done that a few times. For me, I need something that keeps everything not flopping around.
Well for me being in a chair for 25 years or more i find not wereing any is the soulition for me, besides, when the lucky day comes along and i find myself on third base ill have alot less to take off!!! good luck with your problem.

Yes I am straight.
You've done what a few times?
Commando here too.
lol lol lol What's being straight gotta do with it? Guys have the same equipment, regardless of whom they sleep with.
Anyway, I stopped wearing underwear at puberty because it got in the way of my male freedom and comfort. Since I wear a brace on my left leg, the underwear, regardless of type or material, always got caught in the ischial ring and both my skin in the region as well as the shorts got torn up. Not kewl, ya know?
Now, when going in for a physical exam at the doc's or to get my brace worked on, I bring a pair of briefs along for reasons of modesty. If I am sporting dress pants, I'll wear thongs, because there's much less material to worry about getting caught in the brace.
Hope that helps.
Justin
Why thongs with dress pants? Do you find, as a guy, that the thong is uncomfortable between your cheeks? What about sitting down with one on, how's that?
poor guys .. i'm sorry to hear of this issue and one i never thought of!!
WELL ... that's why this site was created right?
my only thought of thongs .. and i've never worn one ..is that it wldn't be confortable b/c there isn't enough materials in the front .. enough to cover what needs to be covered?
that's my gues ... but i have no suggestions
I just go commando. Boxers don't offer any support, and briefs just get in the way when I'm wearing my AK prosthesis.
Just like William Wallace said, "Freedom!" If I didn't have to deal with all the flak, I'd probably just wear a kilt all the time, but scrubs are close enough in the hospital setting. Loose and light.
I am currently experiencing this problem and its driving me nuts (pun intended!).
I have tried Lifters (wonderjocks etc but are to fiddly/embarassing to put on as I have carers)
I am considering, Tangas , Jockstraps, pouch-briefs and balls-in-one-brief
Advice/experiences of these plus ho you deal with Carers (and 'things that may, erm, arise?)
Also I agree with other posters and the whole gay focus! I am 100% straight wih a gf but dont talk qabout these underwear options because of the whole stigma thing TIA
