It’s been over six months since United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Houston rebranded as Easter Seals Greater Houston. The organization is one of Houston’s oldest and longest continuously operating nonprofit organizations, and even though their name changed, their mission stayed the same.

For more than 60 years, United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Houston served the needs of people with all types of disabilities and of all ages by providing therapy, play-based educational opportunities, family counseling, intervention, adaptive toys and technology, housing and other services.  As the organization grew, however, so did the list of physical and mental disabilities the organization served. The demand for programs and services that serve people living with disabilities is enormous in the Greater Houston Area.  Last year, they worked with nearly 5,700 families through nine major programs, but, as the Houston area continues to grow, so does the number of babies, children, working-age adults and seniors with some type of disability.  In order to meet the growing demand, it just made sense to transition to an affiliation with Easter Seals.

Affiliation with a nationally-known organization has many benefits including the ability to increase service capacity. An example of Easter Seals’ contribution to the organization is the opportunity to share in national corporate sponsorships. When the Easter Seals organization received funding, the newly aligned Houston chapter was able to offer Houston Area Respite Center’s Friday Night Out program for parents of children with disabilities.

These are some of the programs and services offered by Easter Seals Greater Houston.
