My name is Alejandro Albor. I am a double leg amputee due to a suicide attempt in 1983. In a deep depression, I lost hope and drove my car into a moving train. Since that time, I have overcome my depression, married, have three children and compete for the US Olympic Cycling Team. I was a silver medalist in the 2004 Athens Paralympics, having lost to first by a hundredths of a second due to the last minute lack of racing equipment. I am the current US Champion and have held the title five times since I began competing in 2000. Currently, I compete as a representative of Disaboom. I consider it an honor to be a part of this amazing community and the people behind it. I compete in a handcycle I designed and built myself. When not in training or competition, I build handcycles for other physically challenged individuals. For questions about handcycling or if you just want to chat, I can be reached at this blog. You might also want to check out my website at awonalbor.com. Stay active. Stay strong & be yourself! Disaboom wrote an article about me, check it out: Video: I Want to be First: Alejandro Albor’s Quest for Gold Video: L.A. Marathon - I won!
Hobbies: I enjoy white water kayaking when I am not training and competing in handcycle races. I can usually be found at the gym, on the bike trail, or in my shop building handcycles.
Interests: Nutrition & fitness. Educating others about overcoming challenges, persevering & living drug free.
