About Me

As an undergraduate in the Biomedical Science program at Texas A&M University, I suffered a snow-skiing accident which resulted in a broken neck (C7 complete). At that time I was planning on going to Dental School to pursue a career in oral surgery. Because of my limited hand dexterity this was no longer an option. This led me to look into medical school and I attended the University of Washington School of Medicine. After medical school I performed an internship in Internal Medicine and then a residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Baylor College of Medicine. After my residency I completed an additional year of fellowship training in Spinal Cord Medicine at the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation. I am now Board Certified in both Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Spinal Cord Medicine. I serve as the Medical Director of the Center for Neuro & Trauma Rehabilitation at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs, CO. I have spent the last 17 years trying to create devices that help individuals live their lives to the fullest given their circumstances. I have several patents on urinary devices including the HouseHold device which allows men with limited dexterity to perform self-catheterization. I also created, patented, and received FDA approval on a urinary catheter and created a company called the Colorado Catheter Company. Disaboom.com was founded and developed to be a universal platform for the disability world to come together in one unified location to find education, support, ideas, friends, accessible reviews, jobs, and much more. Experts have written medical information that is more in-depth than anything you will find anywhere else in books or on the internet. My goal was to give everyone information as though you were having a long in-depth bedside chat with your physician. Your feedback is crucial because this site will continually improve and change to the needs of those living with a disability or those directly or indirectly affected by disability. We are not perfect or everything to everybody (that is impossible), but we are trying and improving with everyone's input. Please visit often and tell everybody about this community! Thanks and let's make this a great site together.
