About Me

I am a 53 year old woman suffering with Osteoarthritis and Fibromyalgia, as well as Depression and Generalized Anxiety Disorder. I live in Canada (Ontario) and I am having the worst time trying to find pain relief that I can tolerate and that dr's would be willing to prescribe for me. At first, the only meds they would give me were anti-inflammatories, which ruined my stomach and I cannot tolerate them at all (tried 4 different kinds). My family dr finally gave me Tylenol 3's, but they are hard on my stomach also, so not much of a solution. They mostly sit in my cupboard. My whole day is spent trying to be comfortable while in pain, and I don't go out a lot as that causes more pain. I am lonely and unhappy due to lack of activity, but don't see a way out of this cycle without proper pain medication. Any suggestions would be gratefully received. I use heat therapy mostly and relaxation techniques, but the good effects are minimal from this. Most days I feel much older from constant pain, but dr's don't seem to want to discuss it much. The Rheumatologist I saw here was a joke. She did not listen to me at all. I do have an appointment with a Fibromyalgia specialist in Toronto in April, and can only hope that will bring about a positive change somehow. The nearest pain clinic is an hour and a half drive, and my dr knows about it, but hasn't been very proactive in supplying me with a referral to it. We have a chronic shortage of doctors here and no one can afford to not keep the one they've got. It takes years to get another one, so that's not an option. Some days I feel hopeful, but most days I am despondent, isolated, angry(from feeling helpless)and fed up with this whole routine. I am on Disability Pension now, but not in subsidized housing yet as the wait list for that is three years. My interests are: needlepoint, movies, reading, researching my illnesses, visiting with family (2 grandchildren), watch way too much tv, and Messenger and e-mail. Also Disaboom now!
