I am 20 years old and trying to get back into college after being on a medical leave of absence for over a year now. Basically, I got hurt when I was 11 years old. I stood on top of a glass table, trying to replace the bulbs in the ceiling fan, and the table crumbled under me. Four surgeries later, and my muscles in the leg are permanently atrophied, I have neuropathy because of the damaged nerves, and circulation from the leg is messed up, so it swells up to twice or three times its size if I try walking more than 100-200 feet. I use a cane to walk, but I've been trying to get a standard wheelchair so I can go more places than I've been able to in the past (I can't even go into a smaller store or a shopping mall because it hurts too much to walk that far.) I also use crutches occasionally, but I'm starting to develop arthritis in the knee of my good leg. Because of this, I have developed depression. I want the damned thing off if it's the last thing I do, I can't stand it anymore. I'll get out of bed to go to the bathroom, and it hurts too much. I can't sleep because of it, and I can't afford the copayments to go to the doctor to get a stronger prescription. I want to work, and I really want to get a bachelor's degree in web design, but it hurts too much to move, and I tend to black out while on my pain meds. I inherited some of my late father's money, which I used to buy a cheap condo and a car (which doesn't run anymore.) Unfortunately, I have a boyfriend that refuses to work and a roommate with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, so I'm going to lose the condo if I continue to not be able to pay the condo fees.
