Mild-mannered webmaster by day, easy-going, friendly, and with a warped sense of humor day and night. My crazy sense of humor and outlook on life is at least partly due to being a four-time cancer survivor, and most to all from how God has pulled me through very slim odds. When I was 5 years old, I had bone cancer just above my left knee, which resulted in the amputation of my leg, as well as over a year of chemo. I was clear for the next 15 years or so, and had an odd recurrence in my right hip. After four more surgeries, and two years, I finally cleared that hurdle. Since then, I've also had a smaller tumor removed from my right arm, as well as colon cancer 5 years ago. I've been in the clear for those 5 years, and hoping to run that streak for many more. Life has had many challenges over the years, and at times I still feel overwhelmed, but I try to keep my chin up regardless of the circumstances. Having been through the cancer battles, and the long odds with at least two of them, it definitely lends some perspective to things. When I was 5, even with the amputation, my odds of surviving were about 1 in 4 to 1 in 3. When I had the recurrence 15 years later, after the third surgery in about a year, when the tumor came back again, the doctors didn't want to tell me the odds, as they were slim at best. I was also told many times that I would likely never be able to have kids due to being blasted with chemo and radiation, but my wife and I are expecting our first child, due in October.
