Before April 5, 2004, Patricia was a 53-year-old Occupational Therapist, writer, Red Cross Instructor, Senior Fitness Trainer and health care manager. She had published articles and short fiction in varied publications and had finished the first draft of her debut novel CHANGING LIVES. Patricia enjoyed hiking, camping, dancing, biking, swimming, riding her motorcycle and hanging out with her friends and partner. On April 5, 2004 a city bus turned (illegally) in front of her Jeep Wrangler and changed her life. She suffered a moderate traumatic brain injury, cervical sprain (whiplash) and other injuries. She has been in recovery ever since. In the spring of 2005 Patricia wrote a book of poetry about her first year of recovery. The book is titled AFTER THE ACCIDENT. She decided to publish the poems to raise awareness concerning the widespread incidence of mild and moderate traumatic brain injury. There is a two-page overview of mild TBI in the back of the book. It has now been three and one half years since Patricia’s accident. She continues to improve cognitively and physically. She is unable to work or perform many of the recreational activities she enjoyed prior to her injuries, but she continues to work on her novel and is marketing the book to literary agents. Patricia is trying to move beyond her lingering disabilities. For more information on Patricia or her book AFTER THE ACCIDENT, please go to: http://patriciaahenisse.com .
