About Me

My name is Brian Freeman. I live in Marston, NC. I am employed as a Locomotive Electrician for a freight RR although I'm on short term disability. I'm a disabled Vet due to a back injury that occcured about 9 years ago in the Navy. I had surgery Nov 07 to correct the problem and woke up from surgery paralyzed from the T4-5 level down. today I have the use of my right leg although the sensation is far from normal and it is fairly weak but strong enough to stand on. My left side down to my waist has no sensation and my left leg is fully paralyzed with a little sensation. I have a custom leg brace that allows me to walk around the house with a walker. The brace automatically unlocks and locks the knee so I can take a normal looking step. The only problem is that I have very little in my hip so my steps look far from normal. Who cares though right? Given my situation walking is walking. I'm not sure how much more return I will get because I'm the same way that I was in December. I'm cool either way. I'm married and have a beautiful 2 year old little girl named Katie Wayne. My main concern through this has been taking care of her and that hasn't been a problem so far. My career is in limbo because I can't do my job in a chair. I have a business degree but I'm not sure how well I would do working due to other issues that I incurred due to my SCI. I have applied for voc rehab through the VA but I'm considering applying for total disability through the VA. Other than all of that, I enjoy motorcycles, especially my Harley that I'm having to sell. I like anything that I can go fast in. I also enjoy travel and cultural diversity.
