Okay, so my pregnancy cravings have started; they’re not too crazy, like I have read where some women crave pickles on ice cream, at least not yet! No, my cravings have definitely been more normal and thankfully, pretty healthy. I have been craving fruit, all kinds of fresh fruit. I think with fruit being in season now, it all just tastes so wonderful to me, sweet and sour combined. I usually like fresh fruit, but nothing like this; I just can’t seem to get enough of it lately.

Another interesting craving started right when the latest tomato scare occurred. Of course, right at that time, I started craving BLTs. Now this is weird for me, it’s very rare for me to eat or even crave bacon, so it’s how I know it’s a pregnancy thing. But, it was ironic that right when there is a huge tomato scare, I start craving tomatoes. Murphy ’s Law, I guess! Well, I did my research and discovered that vine ripened tomatoes were okay to eat, so thankfully, I was still able to satisfy my cravings. I put a slight twist on the traditional BLT, in hopes of making it somewhat healthier and instead of lettuce, I used spinach, which I always love and it’s so much more nutritious.

Lastly, the weirdest craving for me has been Twizzlers, you know those fake cherry licorice twists. It’s weird because I usually can’t stand Twizzlers. I think they taste so disgusting and are just fake licorice. Normally, I am a true Red Vines gal! But a month or so ago, I saw a one pound bag of Twizzlers at the store and just had to have them. I think that craving has mellowed as I haven’t bought another bag, but let me tell you that was the best bag of Twizzlers I have ever had, and hopefully ever will!

My spasms are still crazy, especially first thing in the morning, it’s like my legs are waking up and ready to run. Sometimes I just have to let them go because I can’t even sit up in bed until they stop. My poor husband, at least he usually rises before me, so I don’t bother him too much.

The most frustrating thing I have been experiencing lately has been issues with Autonomic Dysreflexia (AD). Fortunately, I haven’t had my blood pressure rising too much (I know this because I have a blood pressure cuff, a necessity if you are susceptible to AD), but what I have been experiencing is lots of sweating at and below my injury level. Of course it’s usually triggered by something, most of the time with me, it’s a full bladder (another topic to discuss).

But, I was wondering if any of you girlfriends have had similar issues with pregnancy and if so, what you did about it? I have heard there are medicines you can take to reduce sweating, but I haven’t contacted my doctor. about it yet. It is really annoying though, I feel like a sweaty beast and am changing my clothes several times a day to stay dry!

Onto the full bladder, I am still early in my pregnancy, I really haven’t gained too much weight yet, 3.5 lbs, and my abdomen isn’t too big yet, but I tell you it feels like I have to pee non-stop. It’s really crazy and I am starting to worry that I will just spend the last few months of my pregnancy sitting on the toilet, or getting an indwelling catheter (I currently use intermittent cathing). Not to mention the increased cost of the many additional catheters that I have been using.

I’m going to have to go shopping soon, as many of my clothes are starting to get too tight for comfort. I have no idea all that I will need, but I know I do need some jeans and leggings because if I get much bigger I won’t be able to wear anything but pajamas and sweats!!! I have heard that Old Navy, Target, and Gap have great, affordable maternity lines. Any other suggestions out there? And any favorite piece of maternity clothing you couldn’t live without?

I read about Bella Bands, the piece of clothing that goes over your belly and your pants. I think they look like a great solution for those of us in chairs all the time, as the recent hipster style jeans are not very functional for us wheelies. Who knows, this pregnancy thing might teach me some great new ideas for everyday dressing and living that I never considered!
